Chapter 300: Why Should I Treat Her Kindly
Maya thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.
"I have to say, your sister is not an ordinary person. Even after all this, she managed to make a comeback." Ryan paused. "Actually, there’s something I’m quite curious about. You two are sisters, so why is your relationship so strained?"
Seeing that Maya’s expression was a bit complex, Ryan quickly added, "I was too abrupt, no need to explain."
"It’s not difficult to explain." Maya’s fingers paused on her cup. "The reason why we are like oil and water is because we can’t stand each other. We don’t get along and even see each other as enemies."
Because she needed to complete her mission, it was impossible for her to get along peacefully with Kiki.
Because her presence had affected the original storyline, Kiki hated her and saw her as an enemy.
Their grievances were irreconcilable.
"Can’t stand each other? Is it just a matter of not liking each other’s looks?"
Maya laughed and leisurely swirled her cup. "Ryan, you should know what Kiki has done to me. So why should I treat her well?"
Ryan didn’t speak at first, but after a while, he said, "Your relationship seems pretty complicated, but of course, I support you. Kiki will reap what she sows one day."
Thinking about how the plot had stagnated since Kiki’s comeback, Maya sighed. "Let’s hope so."
Neither of them hurried to leave afterward and started talking about other topics.
"I haven’t been to the set these past few days. How’s everything going?"
"Pretty good. It would be even better if you could send me more food."
Ryan couldn’t help but laugh. "You can’t go three sentences without mentioning food, can you, Maya?"
Though he said that, he called the waiter to order several desserts that Maya liked.
Once the desserts were served, Ryan reminded her as usual, "These desserts are very high in calories, so it’s better to eat less."
"Indulging occasionally won’t hurt." Maya looked serious. "And you already bought them for me, so wouldn’t it be a waste not to eat them?"
"Waste is not acceptable. Do you know how many..."
"Okay, okay." Ryan crossed his hands in front of him.
"You’re right, go ahead and eat."
He should have known that Maya’s chattiness only kicks in at specific times, such as—eating.
Ryan wasn’t interested in sweets, only loving black coffee, and he watched Maya quietly with a warm and fatherly gaze.
It had been a while since he watched Maya film, and this was a rare moment to observe her quietly.
Maya lifted her head, a bit of cream still at the corner of her mouth. "Have you been busy lately?"
Ryan looked at her for two seconds and handed her a tissue. "Things have been a bit busy recently, but it’ll quiet down in a couple of days. I’ll visit you on set then."
"Okay." Maya took the tissue.
*
Maya always felt that Ian had been more free these days, as he often took her to various restaurants.
The awkwardness and avoidance in interactions with Ian had eased a lot; after all, no one could resist the allure of delicious food.
The most important thing was that Ian rarely said those things that left her defenseless; he merely accompanied her, often commenting about the food.
Maya couldn’t help but relax.
She received a message from Ian in the morning, and sure enough, she saw him after her scenes were done.
He came alone, just wearing a light-colored trench coat, quite low-key. But with his outstanding looks and great physique, he still attracted quite a bit of attention.
However, most people on set were aware of his identity and his relationship with her, so they merely went to greet him and didn’t overstep.
But there are always exceptions; Maya had seen it several times. There were always some young actors hanging around him.
No one knew what he said, but the young actors soon left, looking somewhat frustrated.
Maya then walked over. "I didn’t expect you to be quite popular."
As soon as she teased him, she realized it might sound like she was jealous.
"No, that’s not what I meant, I meant..."
Now her explanation seemed to only dig a deeper hole, so Maya simply stopped talking.
Ian laughed, "I get it."
"You get it? What do you get?"
Ian gently put his arm around her shoulder while his other hand opened an umbrella. "The weather is a bit stuffy. Are you wearing too much?"
Maya wore a sporty jacket with the zipper up to her collarbone, looking quite thick.
Maya wasn’t very concerned about what he was saying and just felt the touch on her arm. She looked around twice. "Isn’t the way we’re like this... not too good?"
"What’s wrong with it?" Ian looked at her calmly. "If we kept three meters apart, tomorrow’s hot topic would be marriage trouble between us."
Maya thought about it, and he was indeed right, so she said nothing more.
But throughout their walk, Maya’s attention wasn’t on the road ahead, but entirely on her shoulder.
"Hey! Bro!"
The familiar voice came, and turning around, she saw it was Eric Rowe.
Eric approached quickly, his assistant almost jogging to keep up with him.
He was full of excitement, "Bro, you actually came to the set! I missed you so much! Did you come to see the sis-in-law?"
Ian nodded, "How are things here?"
"Me? I’m doing great! The director praised me for having talent!" Eric beamed with joy, transforming from a wolf to a dog when around close ones.
"Are you going out somewhere?"
Maya replied, "Just going for a walk, want to join us, Eric?"
"He’s busy." Ian answered for him.
"How do you know he’s busy?"
Ian glanced at Eric. "Tell me, busy?"
"I, I..." Eric wanted to go with them, but seeing his brother’s sharp gaze, he quickly abandoned the idea:
"I... do have some things to work on, so I won’t intrude on your date with sis-in-law."
"Then just focus on your acting. I’ll take your sis-in-law first."
"... Okay."
Watching his brother’s indifferent and unsentimental back, Eric truly recognized his role as the third wheel.
Now he understood why Vincent hadn’t shown up recently—likely also chased away by his brother.
"Eric, we have a scene to shoot soon. Should we head over now?"
"Let’s go now, I guess. There’s not much else to do." Eric turned back and walked with his assistant.
