Chapter 326 - 328: Father
Chapter 326 - 328: Father
Going back to yesterday, after the man left, the livestream chat was still abuzz.
[Streamer, tell us already! Who is getting married to whom?]
[He can’t possibly be marrying one of those weird blind dates he had, right?]
[Don’t tell me it’s that young nanny! Did she dump her disabled husband to be with him?]
[I bet that’s it!!]
[C’mon, Streamer, just tell us.]
Looking at the flood of demanding comments, Su Nian’s eyes crinkled, and a faint smile played on her lips.
She explained to the camera, "His ex-girlfriend is getting married tomorrow. However, the groom’s family made a last-minute demand that she provide a car as part of her dowry. So, she went straight to her first love—another ex-boyfriend—and asked him to be her new groom."
The moment she said that, the chat completely exploded.
[What kind of epic romance is this? ’I’m getting married today, but I just happen to be short one groom.’]
[Whoa, I can’t believe after all this time, they ended up back together.]
[This time their families will have to accept it, right? After all, they dated for so long, and both sets of parents knew about their relationship.]
[If you ask me, both families will definitely approve this time.]
[Yeah, totally! They’ve already wasted so much time. The guy’s mom must be especially desperate. At this point, she’s probably dying for any woman to marry him.]
[Especially after everything that’s happened.]
[I think that no matter what their parents say, the guy is going to stay with her. He’s definitely not letting her go again.]
Su Nian just smiled and shook her head, not saying any more about the matter. Instead, she reached out a fair hand and rang the bell in front of her.
The third client entered.
This time, however, two people came in.
A young man walked in, supporting an elderly man.
The elderly man was in visibly poor health, and he had great difficulty walking.
He was incredibly weak, looking as though he were suffering from a serious illness. The young man helping him looked up and glanced cautiously at Su Nian.
While his hands supported the elderly man, his own eyes were bloodshot and his face was deathly pale, with dark, bluish circles underneath.
It looked as though he hadn’t slept properly in several days.
Su Nian frowned the moment she saw him.
Meanwhile, the chat started buzzing with discussion.
[My guess is that’s his father. They look pretty similar!]
[Don’t tell me his father’s been possessed by something nasty?]
[I’m a med student, and I think his father’s complexion is really bad. From the looks of it, he doesn’t have long to live.]
The young man, unaware of the discussion in the chat, carefully helped his father sit down in the rocking chair.
The old man was already breathing his last, weakened to the extreme.
The young man glanced at his father, then quickly turned to Su Nian, his eyes brimming with tears.
His lips trembled, but no sound came out.
It took him a moment to compose himself, his voice thick with emotion when he finally spoke.
"Hello, Master. My name is Yao Bai. My father is sick, and I wanted to ask you... is there any chance he can live?"
He spoke haltingly, his voice pausing several times. By the end, his words were barely a whisper.
But Su Nian understood him instantly. One look at his father’s face confirmed it: the man’s days were numbered.
[Just looking at him, I can tell. I’m certain his father only has a few days left.]
[So tragic!]
[This guy looks kind of familiar... hang on, I’m gonna look him up.]
[He looks familiar to me, too. I think he was in the news before. I’ve seen his name somewhere.]
[Right, right! I remember someone with the exact same name, and he looks just like him! I’m gonna go check the news and confirm it.]
Su Nian looked at the young man again without speaking, but he seemed to already know the answer.
He couldn’t bear to hear her say it. After a pause, he continued, "I... I’m at my wit’s end. My father has never known a moment of peace in his entire life. I’m begging you, Master. Please, see if there’s any way for him to live just a few more days."
The young man suppressed his grief as hot tears welled in his eyes before slowly rolling down his cheeks.
His entire being was taut with the effort of holding back his sorrow.
Su Nian looked up, suddenly losing her appetite for the peach in her hand.
Composing herself, Su Nian asked, "Aren’t you in the medical field? Can’t you tell? He truly doesn’t have long."
The young man fell silent again. A heavy quiet descended upon the room.
Even the sound of the wind seemed to quiet, as if afraid to disturb the three people in the room.
In those few short minutes, his father had slipped back into unconsciousness. At that sight, the young man finally broke down, unable to hold back his tears.
Large, hot tears streamed down. He tried to catch them in his palms, but it was no use. He buried his face in his hands.
He cried until he was nearly spent, sobbing uncontrollably as the tears streamed endlessly.
"I’m a man of science. I’ve read so many books... I don’t actually believe in ghosts or spirits."
"But I’m truly out of options. I’ve tried everything I know. I just... I just want him to live for a few more days."
He just sat there quietly, tears starting to fall without a sound.
His gaze was lifeless. His deeply sunken eyes, devoid of any light, were steeped in despair and grief.
He struggled to raise a hand and wipe the tear tracks from his face, only to bury his head in his hands once more.
The man in the rocking chair was unconscious, while the young man was lost in his grief.
Although he hadn’t explained his situation in detail, most of the viewers understood.
Just then, the users who had gone to look him up returned to the chat.
[Sigh, I knew he looked familiar! He’s a medical researcher specializing in neuroscience. I heard he’s won a ton of international awards.]
[That’s my idol, you guys are only just now figuring this out?!]
[Even my professor admires him! He’s accomplished so much at such a young age. He’s a genius!]
After a long moment of choked sobs, the man in the rocking chair seemed to have sunk even deeper into sleep, as if he’d lost all awareness of the outside world.
The young man forced himself to look up, his hands soaked with tears.
"I studied for so many years... I don’t believe in any of this stuff, but I have no other choice! Streamer, my dad put me through school for all those years... He’s never had a single day to just relax and enjoy life. How could he suddenly get brain cancer?"
Yao Bai’s eyes were completely red. He whimpered, the words tumbling out in broken pieces, but Su Nian understood the general meaning.
How ironic. He had achieved so much in the field of medicine, yet when faced with his own father’s grave illness, he could only turn to the supernatural for help...
