Chapter 16 Guiding My Little Brother: The First Mission Reward
Chapter 16 Guiding My Little Brother: The First Mission Reward
The next day, under the torii bridge in a corner of Konoha.
"By the way, is this our meeting point from now on?" Looking around at the familiar yet unfamiliar landscape, Ishikawa listlessly glanced at the river and asked casually.
After the time-space connection ended last night, he studied the learning materials left by Lin day and night until he was woken up by the two of them this morning and brought here.
And this place, naturally, is the location of Class 7 in his memory! The red torii gate bridge that appeared more than once.
"Big brother, this is the location that Kakashi-sensei's shadow clone mentioned yesterday. We came here last night to confirm it, and it's definitely here!"
"The teacher also said that he had only taken us there to familiarize us with the task process. From now on, we will gather here every day, and he will announce the task details or whether there will be a day off."
The two younger brothers leaned against the railing, one on each side, explaining the situation to Ishikawa.
"Is that so? It's a pity that the teacher has a habit of being late, I don't know what time he'll arrive today..." Ishikawa yawned while leaning on the railing, making his two underlings glance at him slightly.
"Big brother, did you cultivate all night last night? You look so tired!"
“Yes, this is a hard-won opportunity for us. Of course we must train hard and master those ninjutsu as soon as possible.” Ishikawa nodded, putting some pressure on his two underlings.
Sweating more in peacetime means bleeding less in wartime.
In this dog-eat-dog world of ninjas, if even extras don't work harder, they might not even make it to the Chunin Exams.
"Big brother, can you teach us how to climb trees before the teacher arrives? During yesterday's ninjutsu training, the teacher said that if we know how to climb trees, we might be able to learn that ninjutsu faster!" The two underlings exchanged a glance, and Taro took the initiative to ask.
Their eldest brother is working so hard, how can they be content with the status quo and embarrass him...
"Alright, anyway, this is something I promised you." Ishikawa nodded slightly in agreement, and he also gained a new understanding of Kakashi's laziness.
This was originally his duty, but he actually shifted the blame onto himself!
"Climbing a tree, in essence, is about distributing chakra evenly under your feet to adhere to the tree trunk or other objects. Simply put..." Ishikawa thought to himself, unable to find the words to complain, but on the surface, he explained the chakra control techniques for climbing trees in great detail.
Thanks to his own successful cultivation experience and the information Lin gave him, Ishikawa provided a detailed and thorough explanation, which greatly enlightened his two underlings, who were overjoyed and looked at him with admiration.
[Tch, if only a pretty girl had that look in her eyes...] Ishikawa sighed inwardly, feeling utterly bored, and waved his hand to send his two underlings off to practice their training.
"Come on, Jiro..."
"Yes, we must not let our elder brother down."
With two shouts, the two underlings formed hand seals, gathered chakra, and rushed towards a nearby tree.
"Well! It's not without its advantages. At least for now, it won't distract me or be a burden to the team." Watching the two figures charging towards the tree trunk, Ishikawa smiled calmly and turned to look at the babbling river.
Although it's just a small river, it's more than enough for practicing water-walking!
"I should get my act together and start treading water." He patted his forehead to clear his head, then formed hand seals and gathered chakra in the soles of his feet.
The next instant, Ishikawa leaped up and jumped off the small bridge. The impact of the jump kept him afloat for only half a second before he plunged into the river with a splash...
"Luckily I chose the riverbank, otherwise I would have been so embarrassed!" Looking at the river that was up to his calves, Ishikawa chuckled and muttered to himself as he gathered his chakra again and stepped onto the river.
"Thump..." "Splash..."
Soon, the sounds of tree trunks falling to the ground and water cascading down the river could be heard, creating a lively scene...
"Oh my, the three of you are working so hard! It makes me, as your teacher, feel so ashamed!!"
More than an hour later, just as the three of them were engrossed in their training, covered in sweat, Kakashi's voice came from the torii gate, waking them up.
"Kakashi-sensei, you've finally arrived!"
"What's the mission today, Kakashi-sensei...?"
The two underlings immediately turned around and shouted. Ishikawa didn't say anything, but he jumped onto the bridge and waited for orders.
"Well, you don't have any missions today. I was originally going to tell you that you could start training in ninjutsu, but I didn't expect you to start so willingly." Kakashi scratched his head, his eyes filled with satisfaction. No matter how talented they are, no teacher will dislike a hardworking disciple.
"Huh? No missions today!" Upon hearing Kakashi's reply, the two underlings, who had been full of anticipation, immediately looked disappointed.
However, the two quickly came up with a new idea and regrouped. Since there were no missions, didn't that mean they could cultivate freely today?
"By the way! I'm glad you've all worked hard. But I still want to remind you that it's best not to do anything too physically demanding before I arrive. If there are any missions outside the village, it might affect your safety." Kakashi thought for a moment and then added, "Of course, you can train freely for now. You shouldn't have any dangerous missions outside the village for at least the next two months."
"Understood, Kakashi-sensei." Ishikawa and the other two replied in unison.
This was done for their own good, and the three of them were certainly not ungrateful.
"This is yesterday's mission reward, one for each of you." Nodding to the three of them, Kakashi took out three banknotes from his ninja tool bag and handed them over.
The three were overjoyed upon seeing this. Their living allowances stopped being distributed upon graduation, and as ninjas, they could no longer do odd jobs to earn money. Mission rewards were their only source of income.
How could the three of them ignore this! Cultivation is all about spending money; having money can truly shorten the gap between ordinary people and geniuses...
"Five hundred taels? That's a lot of money!" After quickly taking the money note and glancing at the face value, Taro couldn't help but gasp.
I'd heard that ninjas made money, but I never imagined it would be this much. The reward for just one D-rank mission surpassed their previous month's allowance.
"If I get ten D-rank missions a month, wouldn't I be making five thousand taels a month? I'm rich, I'm rich..." Jiro exclaimed, looking greedy.
"You two are hopeless, you're dreaming too much." Ishikawa rolled his eyes, scoffing at his two underlings' rosy dreams.
Ten D-level missions a month? Do you know what that means?
Having eight D-rank mission records qualifies you to participate in the Chunin Exams. While this is just a reference, the actual number of missions completed in a year after graduation would likely be significantly higher.
But since this rule exists, there must be a deeper reason. Not every group is a main character group or a supporting character group, and not every group has priority in missions!
This rule is clearly designed for these minor roles. After all, the number of low-level missions is limited, the pie is only so big, how are all the hundreds of genin teams in Konoha supposed to share it?
So, it's very likely they only get one or two assignments a month! And that's an overestimation...
Unless they can demonstrate some extraordinary talent that allows them to stand out from their competitors and be favored by three generations!
Otherwise, even Kakashi couldn't secure many missions for them. At most, they'd get a tiny bit more than other teams, which is better than nothing...
