Tata spoke, her hoarse voice unusually tinged with a hint of mockery:
"Now that I've finished speaking, there's still plenty of time left, so feel free to discuss."
"Let's see how much more juicy gossip can be uncovered behind this incident."
……
The Bellflower Garden.
"And... what other stories are there?"
When Luo Xiu said there was one last story, the woman felt her throat tighten and her tongue almost tied in knots.
Luo Xiu smiled, no longer keeping her in suspense:
"Perhaps it's because of Sheke's crazy experiments, perhaps it's because of Lucas's contamination of the alchemical array, or perhaps it's for some other reason, but in any case... the mushroom monster has been resurrected."
"impossible!"
The woman retorted instinctively without the slightest hesitation, which made Luo Xiu laugh.
Seeing Luo Xiu's mushroom-shaped, deadpan face chuckling, the woman thought he didn't believe her and became a little anxious.
"What are you laughing at, you brat?"
"I wasn't laughing at you."
Luo Xiu smiled and waved his hand:
"It simply resolved a long-standing question in my mind."
Seeing the woman's confused look, Luo Xiu spoke:
“I once told my teacher that I saw a monster in Kanriel.”
"My teacher's reaction was exactly the same as yours just now."
“I never understood why the teacher was so certain that there were no monsters in Kanriel, but after hearing your story today, I understand now.”
"It's because of my teacher's teacher, right? [Leader] He once told you that there are absolutely no monsters in Kanriel."
"..."
"..."
After a long silence, the woman sighed:
“I used to think that my senior brother was dull and didn’t know how to talk. He didn’t have much talent in anything other than alchemy. But now I think he’s at least pretty lucky.”
"It's a relief to have a student like you."
The woman tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and looked intently into Luo Xiu's eyes:
“You’re right, it’s because our teacher once said that there are absolutely no monsters in Kanriel.”
"But there are some things you may not know. Actually, my senior brother was the only one who didn't believe this statement before."
"Because my senior brother said that when he was young, he encountered a monster in Kanriel and he saw it eat people with his own eyes."
The words "monsters eat people" stuck in Luo Xiu's mind.
He seemed to understand something.
He had previously thought that the mushroom monster's resurrection was a recent event, but now he realized that perhaps the resurrection had already begun long ago.
These guys had been lying in wait in the shadows until these past few years, when they finally couldn't hold back any longer.
……
Inside the cave, the struggle between Shek and Lucas had reached its climax.
Shek firmly held the upper hand.
There was no other way; the fifth-tier mushroom monster in the garden was Kanriel's foundation, and anyone who touched it would incur public wrath.
Faced with the increasingly hostile gazes of those around him, Lucas suddenly stood up from his chair. He looked around, his eyes filled with determination and ruthlessness, as if he had made up his mind.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, a dark purple light shone in his hand, and two mirrors appeared in his palm.
A commemorative mirror.
Everyone present recognized him.
This is a photo-recording prop. Compared to photo-recording arrays, this prop can retain images for a longer time, produce clearer images, and leave traces of time.
Lucas activated his magic, and a tall, thin man dressed in gold clothes appeared on one of the mirrors, with a stiff, dead smile on his face.
Those man-made creations of the money-making casino.
The people around the table frowned, wondering what Lucas was up to.
But soon, this doubt turned into astonishment.
The scene in the mirror shifted, and the camera slowly panned downwards as the man in gold crouched down, revealing a blood-covered boy lying at his feet.
The next second, "Pfft—"
The bloody scene filled everyone's vision.
The expressions on everyone's faces changed, and they turned to look at Shek sitting there.
Shek pursed his lips, his originally calm expression turning somewhat gloomy.
"hehe."
Looking at Shek's expression, a smile appeared on Lucas's aged face:
"Please explain, Your Excellency, why would the staff at the Gold Rush Casino resort to cannibalism?"
Let's chat
First of all, I would like to apologize to all my readers. I originally planned to write 6,000 words a day, but after joining the research group as a research assistant ahead of schedule, I found that I had very little free time each day.
Now I work from 9 am to 9 pm every day, six days a week, and receive a monthly subsidy of 2800 yuan.
It's not even as much as the royalties (not really).
Writing books is a hobby, and scientific research is a dream. I don't want to give up either, so I'm very tired every day.
I plan to submit my PhD application next March. If I am accepted, I will post a separate update to let everyone know.
I originally planned to write a lot of words for this story, but I'm now going to cut some of it short. It's not that I think the pay is too low, dear readers, it's at least more than the research grant.
The main issue is that I need to write a research plan in January 2025. Because I joined the research group early, I need to prepare for the proposal around that time. I need to submit the application in March, and there are two assessments, so I have to finish before then.
Let's talk about this book.
The book started off well, but then faltered in the middle. There are many reasons for this, and actually, everyone's points are valid:
1. Change in the enjoyment factor (The monster-fighting part is not being written anymore, but it is about to begin, and we plan to fight until the end)
2. I haven't updated much (I had to submit my graduation thesis on September 10th this year, and I finished my last day of experiments on August 23rd. I was pretty stressed every day at that time, so I didn't update much after publishing the first chapter. Damn it, I'm saving 100,000 words for my next book).
3. The map change was very abrupt (it was my first time changing a map, and it was so awkward, I laughed so hard). Later, I went and learned a lot of map changing methods, such as the "threading the needle" and "lotus map" methods, etc., and it will be better in the next dungeon (I'm guessing).
4. The romance plot is a complete mess (it's safe to say that an author who has only had one online romance experience can't write a good romance plot).
5. Delusional attempt to embellish a group portrait (halfway through, realized something was amiss, and quickly pulled back).
6. Insufficient writing skills (There's not much to say about this; it's just bad writing).
Then there's another very important point: subtle foreshadowing.
A key reason why this book did so well during its initial release period is the subtle foreshadowing.
The author then went completely off track, and a massive amount of subtle foreshadowing appeared.
To be honest, I have a headache every day. How many threads did I leave in my brain before? If I had written "One Punch, One Monster" (a book titled "Squeezing Mama"), the book would probably have done much better than it is now.
But some things, once started, can't be stopped.
There's no other way but to gradually delve deeper.
At least the story of Canril has been brought to a conclusion.
There will never be so many storylines again, I promise. So many subtle subplots made the story very scattered, and even I sometimes forgot about them, let alone the readers.
So if you don't like it, it's not your fault; it's all garbage written by the author.
Hahaha.
The reader group was overwhelmed before, and I haven't had time since. Even when I had some free time, I didn't dare to create a new group, for fear that you would all scold me.
I've finally decided to build one: 910092761
That's all for today. I'm going to take a shower and get ready for bed.
Wishing everyone happiness every day, and may the sun rise every morning, marking the start of a new day.
Tomorrow will be better than today.
Chapter 191 The End of Kanriel
"Please explain, Your Excellency, why would the staff at the Gold Rush Casino resort to cannibalism?"
Lucas, confident of victory, grew increasingly aggressive.
"Several hundred years ago, your family used that fifth-tier mushroom monster to create a batch of 'monsters.' At the time, you guaranteed that these 'monsters' were absolutely safe. So please explain what they are?"
A tentacle emerged from the mist surrounding Tata, grabbed the recording mirror on the table, and began to examine it closely with Vivian beside her.
The two watched intently, exchanging ideas and discussing them from time to time. In the end, the mirror was put back on the table.
"It's true. Judging from the timeline, the image on this memory mirror should be from six or seven years ago."
Tata spoke, her voice hoarse.
Lucas's expression grew increasingly smug.
With the corroboration of two alchemy masters, Vivian and Tata, Shake had virtually no chance of turning the tide.
What's on the other side of the mirror?
The little girl in the silver helmet reached out to grab something, revealing a scene of two men in gold clothes chatting.
