The peeling paint on the windows of the second-floor houses has been replaced with exquisite carved wooden window grilles, and a faint fragrance permeates the entire street.
Everywhere you can see exquisite horse-drawn carriages moving slowly, with gold trim on the roofs, horses draped in red cloaks, and ladies or young women chatting and laughing inside.
Their attendants were driving for them.
The taverns that once lined the streets have now been transformed into bright restaurants, where noblemen dressed in magnificent robes with short jackets embroidered with their family crests sit.
Luo Xiu and Leila's attire stood out conspicuously in this environment.
The ladies and young women passing by frowned at them, making no attempt to hide the disdain and contempt in their eyes.
Only seven days have passed, how could the town have become like this?!
Luo Xiu looked at everything before him, his heart filled with doubt.
Logically, with war about to break out, these nobles should be hiding far away, but instead they're all running towards Wheel Town.
He led Leila into town, hoping to find someone to ask what had happened.
But none of the people I usually knew were in town at this time.
Uncle Glenn's patty shop has been converted into a place for afternoon tea.
Mrs. Laura's clinic was closed.
Miss Michelle's dessert shop, however, is still open as usual.
The only difference was that it wasn't Miss Michelle running the business, but a woman dressed as a maid, and instead of selling grape or raspberry flavored pastries, it had become a cloying honey flavor.
A fat woman was eating voraciously inside, seemingly taking over the place.
It seems they've all gone to Bantanda...
Luo Xiu couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic.
Composing himself, he arrived at the western entrance of the town.
There wasn't a single wandering merchant in sight; instead, many tents were pitched along both sides of the road outside the West Gate.
It appears that the wandering merchants have all been driven out of the town.
Luo Xiu walked to the old White shop, only to find it locked up as well.
But the note on the door indicated that old White had not left town for Bandanda:
"I'll be away for a few days. Luo Xiu and the thief, please do not trespass. There are birds of prey inside. Anyone who violates this rule will bear the consequences!"
No, what did that thief do to you?!
In order to protect the reputation of a certain fictitious thief, Luo Xiu resolutely tore off the note and ripped it into pieces in no time.
Looking at the empty gate, Luo Xiu felt much more at ease.
He pressed himself against the door and peered through the small window into the shop, trying to confirm whether old White was deliberately hiding and hadn't opened the door.
The store was completely empty.
Only that scruffy parrot was standing on the counter.
Upon seeing Luo Xiu's face appear at the window, it immediately hopped forward a few times, getting closer to Luo Xiu and tilting its neck to look at him.
"Does touching it mean you have to buy it?"
Its voice was hoarse, like a broken gong.
But Luo Xiu was surprised to find it pleasant to hear; it was the first familiar voice he had heard since returning to town.
He couldn't help but smile knowingly:
"What's your name?"
I only asked casually because I was alone, but to my surprise, the parrot tilted its head, thought for a moment, then flew up from the counter, flapping its wings and circling overhead before saying:
"Rad! Rad! Rad!"
Rad?
Luo Xiu nodded:
"See you next time, Rad."
After leaving Old White's exchange, Luo Xiu and Leila went to the Adventurers' Guild.
Unexpectedly, Liz also took leave, saying she would be back in two days.
"Today was truly an eerie experience."
Luo Xiu couldn't help but chuckle; in such a large town as Wheel Town, the only person who could be spoken to was a parrot.
Finally, he and Leila arrived at Dave's house.
Knock on the door.
The door was opened from the inside.
Dave appeared behind the door, wearing a sky-blue nightgown and a conical nightcap, his eyes still sleepy.
"Luo Xiu, did you bring any alcohol?"
"liquor?"
Luo Xiu, who was excitedly about to go up and give Dave a hug, froze on the spot. After realizing what was happening, he immediately smiled and said:
"I didn't bring any alcohol, but we can go to the pub for a drink, it's on me."
"Ha, all the taverns in town are closed. Those guys in robes and coats only like their wine glasses."
Dave stepped aside, gesturing for Luo Xiu and his servant to enter, and said sarcastically:
"Otherwise, do you think I would be sleeping at this hour?"
Upon hearing Dave bring it up, Luo Xiu quickly asked:
"What happened, Dave? I was only gone for a few days, how did the town become like this?"
"The devil knows."
Dave gestured for Roth to sit wherever he liked, then turned to get the wine bottle from the fireplace:
"About five days ago, those guys scurried into the town like rats in the sewers, took over the townspeople's houses, renovated the taverns, and decorated the hotels, looking like they were on vacation."
Dave poured a glass from the bottle and handed it to Luo Xiu.
Luo Xiu took it and said:
"This doesn't make sense, Dave. We're about to go to war."
"Yeah, war's brewing, and these guys are running this way."
Dave downed the brown liquid in his glass in one gulp and said:
"To be honest with Luo Xiu, I feel that something is off about this battle."
"How to say?"
Luo Xiu's heart stirred, and he asked.
"My regimental commander contacted me and a few other close friends a few days ago, telling us to stay back in this battle and not rush in to our deaths."
"Isn't this normal? There's no point in you going up there."
Dave shook his head.
“You don’t understand. I’ve known my regimental commander for many years. I know what kind of person he is. Under normal circumstances, he would never say such a thing.”
Dave poured himself another glass from the bottle and murmured:
"He's the kind of person who would rather die on the battlefield, how could you say that?"
Luo Xiu was at a loss for words upon hearing this, as he did not know the commander that Dave was talking about.
He raised his glass and took a sip, nearly spitting it out.
Sour.
This is apple cider vinegar, not apple wine.
Dave looked completely innocent:
"We finished our wine two days ago, and now we can't buy any more in town."
Luo Xiu put down his wine glass, thought for a moment, and then said:
"Dave, do you even know what a 'family home' is?"
"A vassal state?"
Dave thought for a while before figuring out what word Luo Xiu was referring to, and immediately shook his head:
"Never heard of it. You can try looking in the town library; some of the books there are quite old, you might find something there."
Luo Xiu noted down Dave's reminder, and seeing Dave head towards the second floor, he asked:
"Where are you going?"
"I'll go tidy up your room."
Dave looked at Rosh and Leila with a puzzled expression:
"Aren't you and your servant going to stay at my house tonight?"
"When did I say I wanted to stay at your house? Leila and I will be going home in a bit, so there's no need to trouble you."
Luo Xiu waved his hand, feeling that Dave was being too enthusiastic.
Dave looked at him, his expression even more puzzled:
"Go home? What home do you have left? Wasn't your home taken over long ago?"

Luo Xiu pulled Leila along as they hurried home.
According to Dave, their house has now been taken over by a viscount's daughter.
When they arrived,
