The last bullet pierced the attacker's forehead with pinpoint accuracy.
The attacker froze, the syringe slipped from his hand, his body swayed, and he fell heavily to the ground. His crazed eyes finally lost all their luster, frozen in disbelief.
Everything happened in a flash of lightning.
The corridor was filled only with the smell of gunpowder and blood.
Yuki Takada slowly lowered his gun, but he did not let his guard down. His sharp eyes scanned the surrounding shadows to check if there were any accomplices.
Shirley leaned against the cold pillar, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst out of her chest.
She looked at Yuuki Takada's retreating figure, then at the rapidly cooling corpse on the ground, and a wave of fear washed over her, making her limbs go weak.
Yuki Takada turned around and quickly walked up to Sherry.
His expression remained calm, but upon closer inspection, one could detect a lingering fierceness and a subtle tension in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" Yuki Takada asked softly.
Shirley shook her head, wanting to say something, but found her throat too dry to make a sound.
Yuuki Takada quickly scanned her body to make sure she wasn't injured.
Then, his gaze fell on the left arm he had just pulled on.
Shirley followed his gaze and noticed that there was a tear in the fabric of his suit on the outside of his forearm, and the dark fabric had become even darker—blood had seeped through.
"You're hurt!" Sherry blurted out, her voice trembling with urgency she herself didn't realize.
The wound didn't look long, but it seemed quite deep, and beads of blood were slowly seeping out.
Yuuki Takada glanced in the direction of her gaze, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly, as if he had just noticed the pain. He flexed his fingers to make sure the bones were alright.
"It's just a minor injury..." he said casually, his tone as indifferent as if he were talking about someone else's business. "It's just a scratch, nothing serious."
This is definitely not a simple scratch.
Shirley's research involved a great deal of human biology, and she knew very well what that amount of bleeding meant. But he was clearly unwilling to elaborate.
Just then, hurried footsteps approached.
Keita Ichihara arrived at the scene with several newly appointed security personnel who were completely loyal to Yuuki Takada. Upon seeing the body on the ground and the wound on Yuuki Takada's arm, his face turned deathly pale.
"Lord Hennessy! You're injured!"
"This...this is a grave dereliction of duty!" Keita Ichihara's voice trembled. Lord Hennessy had been attacked and injured within his jurisdiction—this was an utter blunder!
Yuuki Takada waved his hand, interrupting his apology, and ordered in his usual calm tone, "Clean up the scene."
"Search this person thoroughly, find out his identity and how he infiltrated. Keep the news under wraps; I don't want a single word of tonight's events to leak out."
"Yes! Yes!" Keita Ichihara quickly responded and directed his men to act swiftly.
Yuuki Takada then looked at Sherry again. Her face was still pale, but her eyes had regained some composure as she looked at his arm.
"Can we walk?" he asked.
Shirley nodded.
“Back to your dorm,” Yuuki Takada said, naturally placing his uninjured right hand behind her back to maintain a protective distance, leading her through the corridor toward her dorm room.
With steady steps, Yuuki Takada seemed to regard the life-or-death struggle and the injury on his arm as nothing at all.
Yuuki Takada stopped at the dormitory entrance.
"Get a good rest tonight. I'll send more people to guard outside." Takada Yuuki looked at her, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Don't leave here before tomorrow morning."
“Your arm…” Shirley couldn’t help but speak again, “It needs some treatment. I… I have some basic disinfection and bandaging supplies here.” Her lab and dormitory always kept emergency medical kits on hand.
Yuuki Takada glanced at her with a hint of surprise, remained silent for a few seconds, and then unexpectedly nodded: "Okay."
He followed Shirley into the dormitory living room.
Shirley quickly took out the first-aid kit.
Yuki Takada took off his suit jacket, unbuttoned his shirt cuffs, and rolled up his sleeves to his upper arms.
The wound was exposed; it was a cut about five or six centimeters long, not particularly deep, but the skin and flesh were turned outwards, and a lot of blood had flowed out.
Shirley pursed her lips, took out disinfectant swabs and medicine, and skillfully cleaned, applied medicine, and bandaged his wound.
Her fingers were slender and steady, focused on the wound itself.
Neither of them spoke during the process.
Yuuki Takada looked down at her focused profile and slightly trembling eyelashes, his gaze deep and unfathomable.
"Okay." Shirley finished bandaging and said softly, "The wound isn't too deep, but it's best to have a professional doctor take a look to prevent infection."
"Hmm." Yuuki Takada lowered his sleeves, put his coat back on, and covered the bandages. "Thank you."
Reaching the door, Yuuki Takada paused for a moment. Without turning around, he left in a low voice, "Remember, I'm the one who can guarantee your safety better than you can yourself. So, don't do anything unnecessary."
The door closed softly, leaving Shirley alone in the living room, feeling uneasy.
Yuki Takada's last words were a reminder.
He reiterated the promise, but also implied that he was aware of the unrealistic thoughts that might exist in her mind.
And tonight's attack...who was it?
Why kill her?
Is it internal strife within the organization?
Or external forces?
Yuuki Takada seemed to recognize what the attacker had ultimately intended to use…
Shirley felt herself getting into an even deeper mystery.
And that man named Hennessy, if he hadn't protected me and been injured, he would probably be dead by now.
The gunshots in the corridor, his back as he shielded her, the blood on the wound on his arm... these images replayed repeatedly in her mind.
That night, Shirley couldn't sleep.
Outside the dormitory, Yuki Takada did not leave immediately.
He stood in the shadows, watching the two additional guards silently take their positions, his cold gaze sweeping across every corner around him.
The blue potion the attackers had tried to use at the last moment... he recognized it.
It is an extremely potent mixture of stimulants and analgesics that can greatly exploit the body's potential in a short period of time, turning people into painless killing machines, but the price is usually life.
This kind of thing circulates in a very small area and is usually associated with certain specific extremist groups.
It seems that there are indeed people within the organization, or certain forces outside the organization, who are eager to destroy the key figure of "Sherry".
Is it because she took over APTX-4869?
Or is it because of something else?
Yuki Takada's eyes became incredibly sharp in the darkness of the night.
He gently touched the bandaged wound on his left arm, where a trace of the cool touch of her fingertips still lingered.
The plan needs to be accelerated a little.
This attack on Shirley might just be the perfect opportunity.
This would allow him to more easily gain control of the research institute and her, and at the same time, he could use this opportunity to follow the clues and uncover some enemies hiding in the shadows.
Chapter 87 People from the Organization
Yuki Takada took out his phone and sent an encrypted message to his superiors.
[Hakuju Pharmaceutical Company Attacked]
The encrypted message sent by Yuki Takada was like a stone thrown into a dark lake, quickly creating ripples within the organization's specific channels.
We can only hope that the organization is aware of what Baijiu Pharmaceutical Company is going through.
As the night deepened, Shirley tossed and turned in her dormitory. Outside the window, she could vaguely see more figures and more frequent patrol beams, silently testifying to the seriousness of the attack that had just occurred.
The force of being pulled into Yuuki Takada's arms still seemed to linger on her arm.
I could almost smell the faint scent of gunpowder and the chilling aroma.
The thought flashed through my mind, but was quickly overwhelmed by lingering fear and chaotic thoughts.
Yuki Takada did not go far.
He returned to his dormitory next door. The wound on his arm had been treated by Shirley and was no longer a problem, but the pain from being cut by a sharp object was still very clear, constantly reminding him of the urgency of the situation.
Keita Ichihara nervously went to his dormitory to report the preliminary investigation results:
The attackers were unidentified, their equipment was untraceable, and their infiltration route cleverly utilized blind spots in surveillance and gaps in guard shifts, clearly indicating the work of professionals.
The dropped blue serum was carefully recovered and sent to Yuuki Takada's private analysis room.
He could easily access the analysis room through a hidden passage in his dormitory.
Yuuki Takada stared at the eerie blue liquid in the transparent container, his eyes icy cold.
This drug, known as "Blue Nightmare," is extremely potent and has a secretive origin, linked to several ruthless international mercenary groups that will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, or to extremist research institutions.
In short, everything is closely related to North America.
Are they targeting Sherry to stop the development of APTX-4869?
Or are they trying to steal the research results?
Or... is it someone within the organization who used someone else to do the dirty work?
Either way, it means that Sherry's situation is more dangerous than Takada Yuuki had anticipated.
The existing security level must be raised again, but more importantly, we must take the initiative to find the mastermind behind it all.
Over the next two days, while things appeared calm on the surface, undercurrents were swirling beneath the surface.
Yuki Takada swiftly reorganized the security department, further undermining Keita Ichihara's power, and replacing all key positions with his trusted confidants.
Sherry's protection was upgraded to the highest level. She was escorted by a dedicated person when traveling between the laboratory and her dormitory, and the laboratory itself was equipped with several biometric locks and monitoring probes.
Sherry sensed this change imperceptibly, but it was suffocating. However, for safety reasons, she naturally understood Takada Yuuki's actions.
