Chapter 297: The Void's Counterattack
Chapter 297: The Void's Counterattack
The Tower of Destiny collapsed under the combined efforts of the three, and the destruction of the Final Protocol bought the universe a brief respite. However, as Ares, Selena, and Wagner embarked on their journey back to their ship, they sensed an eerie unease. Although the universe had returned to stability, a deeper force was quietly surging beneath this calm surface.
As the spaceship navigated through the wreckage of the Tower of Destiny, Ares gazed at the fading light outside the window, his heart growing heavier with each passing moment.
“Something’s not right.” Wagner broke the silence, gripping his battle axe tighter. “We destroyed the End Protocol, but why do I keep feeling like something’s watching us?”
Selena sat at the control panel, rapidly searching through the remaining data of the destiny code. The characters flashing on the screen made her brow furrow deeper and her expression grow increasingly grave.
“Wagner is right.” She looked up, her voice low but firm. “The Code of Fate has not completely stopped functioning. We destroyed the End Protocol, but the Will of Nothingness still exists, and it is rebuilding itself through the remaining fragments of the Code of Fate.”
Ares's gaze was as sharp as a knife: "It is being reborn."
Selena nodded: "The End Protocol is just a container; the void itself is what truly controls the code of destiny. We destroyed its vessel, but its core consciousness has not completely dissipated."
Wagner gritted his teeth, his eyes blazing with fury: "Then what are we waiting for? Let's do it again, and crush it completely!"
Ares raised his hand to stop Wagner's impulse: "No, this time, we will be facing the entity of nothingness. It has adapted to our previous fighting methods, and simple brute force will no longer work."
Selena continued, "We must find the core consciousness of nothingness and completely destroy its foundation in the laws of the universe. Otherwise, it will continue to regenerate until the entire universe is completely swallowed up."
The spaceship suddenly shook violently, and alarms blared inside. Selena quickly checked the instruments, her face instantly turning pale: "This is bad! The power of the Void is retaliating; it's distorting the flow of time throughout the entire universe!"
The starry sky outside the window began to distort violently. The once stable galaxies were stretched, twisted, and even disappeared in an instant, like rubber bands being pulled. The entire universe seemed to have become a torn canvas, where time and space no longer followed any laws.
"We've been pulled into a time vortex!" Selena shouted, her fingers flying across the ship's navigation system. "The Void is trying to trap us in an endless time loop!"
"Then break it!" Wagner roared, raising his battle axe as if he could cleave the invisible cage with a single swing.
Ares, however, remained much calmer. He knew that brute force alone could not solve the problem. Gripping his rune sword, he closed his eyes, sensing the distorted flow of time around him. He could feel the presence of nothingness, like an invisible hand trying to erase their existence from the universe.
“We must find the weak point in this time loop.” Ares opened his eyes, his gaze sharp. “The power of nothingness is strong, but it cannot completely control every timeline of the universe. We must find that breakthrough and dismantle its loop from within.”
Selena quickly analyzed the structure of the time vortex and finally found a breakthrough in a faint energy fluctuation. She immediately adjusted the ship's course and headed straight for the energy rift.
"Hold on tight!" she shouted, and the spaceship accelerated sharply, passing through the crack.
The moment they passed through the crack, the sight before them made the three gasp. They had entered a completely unfamiliar space—the core of nothingness.
There are no stars, no light, only endless darkness and distorted images. Countless fragments of broken time float all around, like abandoned pieces of the universe. In this despairing darkness, a colossal vortex hovers in the air—the very essence of nothingness.
“This is the true form of nothingness,” Selena whispered, her voice filled with unprecedented fear.
Ares gripped the rune sword, his gaze resolute: "Whatever it is, we must end it today."
The ethereal entity seemed to sense their arrival, and a low laugh emanated from the vortex. The sound seemed to come from the abyss of the universe, carrying an irresistible sense of oppression.
"Guardians, you have finally arrived." The ethereal voice echoed in their ears. "You thought you could escape the cycle of fate? Foolish! Your existence is merely a part of my game. Every act of resistance from you nourishes my power."
“We didn’t come here to escape.” Ares raised his rune sword, its blade gleaming brightly. “We’re here to end you!”
The void let out a piercing laugh, and the entire space began to tremble violently. Countless tentacled-like dark energies surged from the vortex, rushing straight towards the three of them.
The battle erupted in an instant. Ares wielded his rune sword, severing the charging dark tentacles. The light from the sword contrasted sharply with the void of darkness, and each clash produced a deafening roar.
Wagner followed closely behind, his battle axe cleaving through streams of dark energy. His roar echoed loudly in this desolate space. "Come on! Let me show you what I'm made of!"
Selena stood in the rear, providing support with energy weapons while analyzing the void's energy structure to find its weaknesses.
"Its energy core is at the center of the vortex!" Selena shouted, "But we must break through the outer defensive barrier first!"
Ares nodded, leading Wagner towards the center of the vortex. The Void seemed to sense the threat, its defenses becoming even more impenetrable. Each tentacle carried the power to corrode time; a moment's carelessness could lead to its devouring.
In a fierce clash, Ares was sent flying by a powerful impact, his rune sword slipping from his grasp. The ethereal voice echoed once more, filled with sarcasm: "Guardian, you are nothing but a pawn of the universe. You cannot defeat me."
Ares struggled to his feet, his gaze fixed firmly on the center of the vortex: "I am not a pawn, I am a guardian!"
He charged into the void, grasping the runic sword with his bare hands. Driven by his will, the sword once again erupted with powerful light. Wagner and Selena followed closely behind, their combined power forming a dazzling pillar of light that shot straight into the core of the void.
A beam of light pierced through the vortex, and the void let out a piercing scream. Its power began to crumble, and the dark tentacles vanished into nothingness. The light at the center of the vortex grew stronger and stronger, finally erupting with a deafening roar, and the entire space collapsed in the light.
The three were scattered by the powerful energy wave, and when they awoke, they found themselves back on the spaceship. The starry sky outside the window had returned to calm, and the order of the universe had been restored.
"We succeeded." Selena smiled weakly, a hint of worry in her eyes. "But is it really over?"
Ares gripped the rune sword, gazing intently at the starry sky: "The void has been destroyed, but the fate of the universe... remains unknown."
Wagner laughed and patted them on the shoulder: "Who cares? At least we're still alive! Let's go, let's go and embrace a new adventure!"
The three exchanged a smile, the spaceship started up, and headed towards the unknown stars.
