Chapter 109 Kneel before your new king
Chapter 109 Kneel before your new king
Wanda, standing behind Shendu, asked, "Master, do you want this throne?"
The Holy Lord shook his head: "I don't want to."
Wanda was taken aback: "Why? This is the highest power in the Nine Realms..."
The Holy Lord turned to look at Wanda: "Power? Power on the throne is all false. True power is not on the throne but behind it. Odin sat on the throne for thousands of years, but he was still bound by fate, by prophecy, and by his pride and stubbornness. He thought he was omnipotent, but in the end he died by his own son's sword."
After a moment of silence, Wanda said, "My master will not be killed by anyone."
The Holy Lord's lips curled slightly upward: "Of course not."
Inside the medical wing, a servant rushed in, his face ashen and his eyes filled with terror.
"Prince Thor!" the servant stammered. "Something has happened... The Father of the Gods... The Father of the Gods, he..."
Thor's heart sank: "What's wrong with Father?"
The servant opened his mouth, unsure how to tell Saul, his body trembling, tears streaming uncontrollably from the corners of his eyes.
Thor rushed out of the medical wing without waiting for his reply.
A group of people had already gathered in front of the side hall.
The soldiers stood in two rows, their spears pointing to the ground, their faces filled with shock and grief. The nobles crowded at the doorway, whispering amongst themselves, their faces etched with fear and unease.
Frigga stood in the doorway, one hand on the doorframe and the other covering her mouth. Her face was filled with grief, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
Loki stood behind Frigga, one hand on her shoulder, his face also filled with sadness, but his eyes were dry, and no tears fell.
"Get out of the way! Everyone get out of the way!"
Thor's voice came from behind the crowd, and the guards automatically made way for him.
Saul rushed to the side hall door and saw Frigga crying; his heart sank.
"Mother..." Thor walked to Frigga's side, "Father... he..."
Frigga didn't say anything, she just silently stepped aside.
Thor went into the side hall and saw Odin's body in the room.
The Father of the Gods lay on the ground, his hands crossed over his abdomen, his eyes closed, his face expressionless, and a golden cloth covered his wounds.
Thor, witnessing this scene, suddenly felt his legs go weak and his body uncontrollably knelt down, pulling off the cloth covering Odin.
He saw the wound, a clean-edged knife wound on the abdomen, which appeared to have been made by a sharp dagger. There were also parts of Odin's skin that had turned black, which was a sign of poisoning.
Saul's hands began to tremble: "Who? Who did this?!"
No one answered.
Thor suddenly raised his head as if he had thought of something, his gaze sweeping over the crowd. The guards lowered their heads in unison after making eye contact with Thor, and the nobles also looked away, none daring to meet his gaze.
Finally, Thor's gaze fell on Loki.
Loki stood behind Frigga, his face filled with sorrow, but when his gaze met Thor's, his expression froze for a moment.
Thor keenly captured that moment.
"Loki!" Thor stood up, Mjolnir humming deep in his hand. "It's you!"
Loki's expression returned to normal: "Thor, what are you talking about? How could I...?"
"Don't lie to me!" Thor's voice boomed through the corridor, lightning crackling around him as it surged from his body. "I saw it in your eyes! You're guilty!"
Loki's expression changed. He decided not to hide it anymore. Now that most of the Asgardian nobles had arrived, there would be no benefit in continuing to conceal it.
"It was me," Loki said calmly. "I killed my father."
Frigga turned her head, her face filled with disbelief, and said painfully, "Loki...you..."
Looking into Frigga's desperate eyes, Loki couldn't help but lower his head: "I'm sorry, Mother, I had to do this."
"Have no choice?" Thor raised Mjolnir, lightning gathering on its head. "You killed our father, and you say you had no choice?"
Loki raised his head, his eyes gleaming with undisguised coldness, and said in an icy tone, "He is not my father, never has been. He is just a stranger who picked me up from Jotunheim, a fraudster who has used me for thousands of years!"
Thor's pupils contracted slightly: "What are you talking about!"
“I say!” Loki raised his voice a few decibels to make sure everyone present could hear him, “I am a descendant of the Frost Giants, the son of Laufey, and the rightful heir to Jotunheim. Odin brought me back from there not to give me a home, but to use me. He needs a controllable tool, a pawn that will never threaten him.”
Thor gripped Mjolnir tightly, suppressing the urge to smash him: "Are you insane!"
Loki shook his head: "I'm not crazy, I just saw the truth."
Loki ignored Thor, took a few steps back, stood on his chair, and spread his arms wide: "People of Asgard, you have been deceived by Odin for thousands of years. He told you he was a righteous, benevolent, and great leader. In reality, Odin is a fraud, a tyrant, and an executioner. He has slaughtered countless innocent people, plundered the wealth of countless other worlds, and will stop at nothing to maintain his rule."
The nobles looked at each other; some showed signs of wavering, but most remained furious.
"You are defaming the Father of the Gods!" An old nobleman couldn't help but step forward and point at Loki. "You are a traitor, a father killer, and you have no right to stand here."
Loki looked at the old nobleman, a cold smile playing on his lips. "I don't have this?" Loki pointed to the throne. "Then who is qualified? Thor? He's just a simple-minded brute, a fool who only knows how to smash people with a hammer. He doesn't even understand the structure of the Nine Realms. What right does he have to rule Asgard!"
Thor's face turned ashen: "Loki, this is my final warning to you: lay down your weapons and accept your trial!"
"Judgment?" Loki couldn't help but laugh, his laughter growing increasingly maniacal. "Who will judge me? You? You couldn't even protect your own father, what right do you have to judge me!"
Thor could no longer contain himself. He raised Mjolnir and a thick bolt of lightning shot out from the hammerhead toward Loki.
Lightning struck Loki, but Loki did not fall; a green magical shield appeared on his body, blocking the lightning's attack.
"Do you think I'm still the Loki you threw into the void back then?" Loki looked down at Thor and mocked, "I'm no longer the helpless clown I once was. Now, I have power."
Loki raised his hand, and green magical energy surged from his body, transforming into countless eerie green daggers that pointed at Thor.
"Kneel!" Loki said calmly. "Kneel before your new king!"
