Chapter 65 Temptation Without Limits
Chapter 65 Temptation Without Limits
Just as Thor was about to swing Mjolnir a second time, the gates of the Sanctum Sanctorum opened from the inside out, and the King emerged from within.
"Thor, son of Odin."
The king's voice wasn't loud, but it was very clear amidst the thunder: "You attacked the Sanctuary's barrier without prior notification, which is tantamount to a declaration of war in the Nine Realms."
Thor put down his hammer and looked the mage up and down. He could sense that the energy fluctuations emanating from the other man were not weak, but they posed no threat to him.
"Who are you."
"You may call me King, librarian of Kamar-Taj, and current guardian of the Sanctuary."
"A librarian?" Thor repeated, his tone laced with disdain. "A librarian guarding such a strong barrier?"
Ignoring the other party's disdain, Wang calmly raised his hand, and a golden magic circle appeared.
Suddenly, a ring of runes lit up the ground beneath Thor's feet, and golden chains emerged from the runes and wrapped around Thor.
Thor glanced down, flicked his wrist, and slammed the hammer into the ground. The golden chains vanished as specks of light.
"Nice trick," Thor said, lifting his ankle. "But it's just funny."
Wang remained standing in place: "I didn't intend to stop you with this move. I just wanted you to stop and listen to me for a few words."
Thor squinted.
"You sensed the aura of dark magic, didn't you?" the king asked.
"Yes."
"You think someone is abusing magic and could cause a disaster, right?" the king continued to ask.
Thor replied matter-of-factly, "That's to be expected. Nothing good ever happens when there's a dark aura."
Wang sighed: "I understand your concerns and your vigilance, but the current situation may not be what you think."
Wang paused, looking into Thor's eyes, trying to see a hint of doubt, but he failed. Thor's eyes only held a stubborn determination to annihilate the dark aura.
Finally, Wang sighed and said, "Now, there is someone who should be able to perfectly control dark magic, and the methods he has shown make me have no choice but to believe him."
Thor's expression finally changed: "Do you know what you're talking about? How could that kind of power possibly be controlled?"
Inside the secret chamber, the Holy Lord closed the Book of Darkness and casually handed it to Wanda.
He had memorized all the contents of this magic book. The dark magic of this world was completely different from that of his original world and could be a great help to him.
Mordo stood at the door with his arms crossed, his eyes fixed on the Holy Lord.
The Holy Lord looked at the wary Mordo and smiled, "Mordo, how long have you been in Kamar-Taj?"
Modu didn't answer, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes: "It's none of your business."
The Holy Lord turned around and looked at the altar before him: "Why are you so nervous? I was just asking. You've been training with the Ancient One for many years, haven't you?"
Mordo narrowed his eyes and looked coldly at the Holy Lord.
"What are your thoughts on dark magic?" the Holy Lord asked without warning.
"It cannot be preserved; it must be erased." Mordo's tone was resolute.
The Holy Lord chuckled softly: "This kind of thing cannot be erased. As long as an energy system appears, there will inevitably be a dark side to that energy. Yin and Yang are in balance; this is the most basic principle of the world."
"Sophistry," Mordo said coldly.
The Holy Lord ignored whether Mordo could accept it or not. He thought of the Tiger Talisman, which controlled the power of yin and yang balance, and now he didn't know where it was in this universe.
"What if I told you that your respected teacher, the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme, has already come into contact with dark magic?" Shendu turned around and said, "Your teacher has already accepted this energy. Only weaklings like you would fear power."
Mordo felt a chill run down his spine. The Ancient One had been active on the edge of the Dark Dimension, and the possibility that the Holy Lord spoke of was indeed true. If this was true, then what was the point of his current perseverance?
The Holy Lord, observing the change in Mordo's expression, continued, "As you know, I come from another world. In our world, I know everything about you."
The power of the Mind Stone manifested as a thread connecting to the back of Mordo's head. Shendu continued to probe, "Have you been to the Dark World? Do you know how to fight Dormammu?"
Mordo turned his face away, but the power of the Mind Stone had already been activated, forcing him to listen: "To fight against creatures like Dormammu, the Eye Demon, and the Dark Elves, we must use the power of the Dark Dimension."
"Do you know the Ancient One's real age?" Shendu asked.
Mordo shook his head. He only remembered that he had been with the Ancient One since he was a child, and now that he was an adult, the Ancient One's appearance had not changed at all.
"Did you notice? His appearance hasn't changed at all. What does that mean? It means his lifespan is increasing."
"Do you want to know how to prolong your life?" The Holy Lord didn't give Mordo time to think: "It's simple, embrace the power of darkness, utilize the power of the dark dimension."
The Holy Lord's last words exploded in Mordo's mind like a thunderbolt. He could interpret the Holy Lord's previous words as sophistry, but he knew very well that there was no way to increase lifespan in the magic system he had learned.
Mordo stood frozen in place, countless fragments flashing through his mind: the eternally calm face of the Ancient One, the centuries-old events that had been casually recounted, and the things he had never doubted and taken for granted.
"You noticed it, didn't you?" the Holy Lord prompted. "You noticed those anomalies, didn't you?"
Mordo took a deep breath and forced himself to lift his head: "Even if what you said is true, even if the teacher has been exposed to dark forces, it was for protection, not..."
The Holy Lord interrupted him: "And what? Not like me, swaggering around flipping through the Book of Darkness?"
The Holy Lord scoffed, "Mordo, your biggest problem is that you see this power itself as a sin. Dark magic can devour the world, or it can save the world, just like the reason you prepared for the Ancient One. The only difference is who uses it."
Wanda stood to one side, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the cover of the Book of Darkness. She could clearly feel the allure emanating from it, yet within her, the mark representing the Holy Lord was suppressing the desire in her heart.
Wanda intensified her rubbing of the Book of Darkness, trying to feel the mark of the Holy Lord within her more clearly. Soon she let out a comfortable moan, but now the Holy Lord and Mordo's attention were focused on Mordo.
Wanda looked up at Mordo, who was in a daze, and couldn't help but laugh to herself, "A mage like him could never master dark power. He would only become a slave to dark power. Only the master, and himself who has been blessed by the master, can control this power."
