Chapter 32 Attempt to Steal a Chicken Backfires
Chapter 32 Attempt to Steal a Chicken Backfires
The two ultimately decided to split up.
As Shendu walked to the door and was about to leave, he seemed to remember something and said without turning his head, "Captain, have you ever thought about what you would do if Fury was behind all the bad luck you've been having lately?"
Steve picked up the vibranium shield and rubbed its surface with his hand: "I plan to go directly to him and confront him about his ulterior motives regarding the Mind Stone. Knowing Fury as I do, he'll spend at least half an hour dealing with me."
"If it succeeds, what will you do?" the Holy Lord asked.
Steve paused for a moment, then gave a bitter smile: "I will continue to be Captain America, and as long as he has no evidence, he won't do anything to me."
Steve paused for a moment, then added, "And Fury needs me; he needs a spiritual leader."
Following the map given to him by Natasha, Shendu arrived at a small, unnoticed room inside S.H.I.E.L.D., where there was a hidden door beneath the floorboards.
Only the emergency light emitted a faint glow inside the hidden door.
At the end of the passage was a heavy metal door, in front of which were numerous hidden mechanisms, and cameras were pointed at the metal door from all sides.
The Holy Lord tried to throw the map at the metal door, but before it even hit the ground, it was blasted to ash by a beam of light.
The shadow behind the Holy Lord lengthened, and Natasha emerged from the shadow.
Natasha walked to the screen standing to the side, took out the USB drive she had copied from Fury from her pocket, and nodded to the Holy Lord to indicate that the surrounding mechanisms had been turned off.
Data streams appeared on the screen, followed by a hissing sound from the metal door, and then another sign appeared.
The Holy Lord, disguised as Fury, walked in front of the standee.
"Retina, voiceprint, fingerprint, in progress." A mechanical voice rang out from all around: "Welcome, Director Fury."
As soon as the mechanical sound ended, the metal door in front of them opened with a click.
A room entirely made of metal came into view, and in the very center of the room was a transparent box containing an orange-yellow gem.
Fury, who was dealing with Steve, did not notice that the screen of the surveillance device in the drawer turned on automatically, showing a person who looked exactly like him approaching the Mind Stone.
"Captain, that's not your concern," Fury said. "What you're worried about is impossible. No one in S.H.I.E.L.D. wants the Mind Stone all to themselves."
Steve picked up his coffee and took a sip. "That's hard to say. You have to know the bewitching power of that gem."
"Captain, you're really overthinking it. I know you doubt me, but I can assure you that my actions are all on the side of justice."
Fritz paused, his tone even more resolute than before: "The Mind Stone cannot be discovered, much less stolen. I've placed it in the safest location within the entire S.H.I.E.L.D.."
"A place only you know about?" Steve provoked.
Just as Fury was about to say something, the surveillance equipment in the drawer suddenly emitted a sharp alarm, and Fury's face immediately darkened.
Seeing Fury's sudden change in expression, Steve knew that Shendu had succeeded: "Hmm? Why did your expression change so quickly?"
Fury glared at Steve, realizing that Steve was trying to distract him. Otherwise, the monitoring tablet would be on the table, and he would have spotted the intruder immediately.
"Damn it! How did you guys know about that place?!"
Fury was furious. He picked up the phone and immediately ordered the room to be surrounded, not allowing a single fly to get out.
He took a tablet out of the drawer. On the screen was a man who looked exactly like him, who was now opening a box containing gems.
Steve also noticed the scene on the screen, and in his mind, Valon would definitely trigger the alarm mechanism when he got the gem.
He could then blackmail Fury into backing down and revealing his purpose in possessing the Mind Stone, but now everything has changed.
The person on the screen is not Valmont at all.
Fury also noticed Steve's sudden change in expression: "What's going on? Isn't this one of yours?"
"There's a problem. This is definitely not it. The original plan was to work with Valon, use his ability to control inanimate objects to break through the security system, retrieve the gem, and then blackmail you," Steve explained the plan and objective.
Fury curled his lip: "So, you were plotting against both of us at the same time, and now it seems you've really lost more than you gained."
Looking at the Mind Stone in his hand, the Holy Lord could feel the allure emanating from it: "What a wonderful thing. No wonder it's one of the gems capable of reducing the entropy of the universe."
Fury watched as his image on the screen gradually disappeared after he obtained the gem.
"What happened?!" Fury's eyes widened. "How did he disappear?!"
Steve's eyes widened as well: "This is invisibility! We discovered it before. The mole was bio-engineered by the Chitauri and gained the ability to become invisible. Now it seems he can even transform!"
Steve grabbed his shield and stormed out of Fury's office: "This situation is completely unexpected! Those agents couldn't possibly catch the mole, and now Valon has fallen into their hands too!"
The agents waiting outside the secret door saw it open and immediately aimed their guns at it, only to find that they hadn't hit the target; the secret door was empty.
"Be serious, don't push me," an agent called out to the person next to him.
"What are you talking about? I didn't move."
Steve arrived at that moment and overheard the conversation between the two agents. Without hesitation, he threw his shield between them.
boom.
The clanging of metal echoed in the room as the agents discovered a new Captain America among them, also wielding a vibranium shield.
"What's going on? Two captains!"
The agents watched in shock, their hands stopping in their tracks.
"Take him down!" Fury arrived, his voice coming from outside the door.
Now that their superior had spoken, the agents realized that the captain beside them was an imposter and pounced on him without hesitation.
The body of the "Captain America" who was pinned down flickered a few times in a short period of time, and when he was subdued, he had returned to his "original form".
Fury keenly observed the flicker just now, narrowed his eyes, and said to Steve beside him, "Fortunately, it seems their shapeshifting and invisibility can only be maintained for a short time."
"Tell me! Who was your contact at S.H.I.E.L.D.? What did you do to Valmont?"
Steve strode up to the restrained "Zetta Swiss soldier," interrogated him, and searched his body for the Mind Stone.
The "Zita Swiss soldier" simply curled his lip in disdain and turned on the recording device on his wrist.
In the scene, Valon is in a dilapidated factory, with several Zeta Swiss soldiers holding guns to his forehead.
"Want to save this good-for-nothing? Then you can't kill me!" the "Zita Swiss soldier" said viciously. "His current situation is not good."
