Chapter 12 One Against Eight
Chapter 12 One Against Eight
The remaining young spiderlings immediately panicked, their eight short, segmented legs digging wildly as they scattered in all directions.
Some crawled into the cracks in the rocks, some climbed onto the ceiling, some panicked and crashed directly into the rock walls, and a few of the smarter larvae desperately squeezed into the rock crevices that Luo Lan couldn't currently access.
[Hmph, trying to escape?]
Luo Lan immediately took off with his arthropods to catch up. His current size and stride were so large compared to the larvae that it made the insects despair, and he didn't even need to use the mentally taxing [Terror Lv.3].
Its massive body moved through the pile of rocks like a high-powered steel chariot, rampaging and crashing through, each step taking the weight of ten small insects.
Once it catches up, it thrusts its forelegs forward, and the rusty iron spearhead easily pierces the young beetle's carapace, as cleanly and efficiently as poking jelly with a toothpick.
[One, three, ten...]
As she chased and poked, images of the whack-a-mole game from her past life inexplicably popped into Luo Lan's mind.
The shells of these little insects were like paper in front of him; he could poke a hole in them with a single poke, and green sap would splatter everywhere.
Two young spiderlings struggled to climb up the crevice in the rock wall, thinking they could escape.
Luo Lan followed closely with his eight segmented limbs [grasping bristles], his entire body pressed against the stone wall as he chased after them sideways, without slowing down at all.
The two insects glanced back, but before they could react, Luo Lan stabbed them into a pulp with one of his limbs.
The sounds of crustaceans cracking mingled together in the cave, lasting for quite some time before gradually subsiding.
Perhaps Luo Lan's commotion was too great, because the adult giant armored spiders that were out hunting finally realized something was wrong and crawled back to their lair.
Three giant armored spiders emerged simultaneously from behind the rock walls of the cave from different directions.
Their dense, dark purple compound eyes swept over the messy spider nest and the scattered remains of the young, pausing noticeably for a few seconds.
Enraged, they did not rush to attack, but instead circled around the perimeter, with two of them splitting up to the left and right in front, poised to attack from both sides.
The third one retreated into the shadows further away, its shell slowly changing color, blending into the surrounding rocks.
[They're trying to pull off the ambush tactic again.]
Luo Lan activated his thermal vision and scanned the area. The lurking giant spider appeared as a blurry red outline in his field of vision, slowly moving around his side and rear.
Luo Lan adjusted her body orientation to keep the lurking creature at the edge of her line of sight.
[Since you like hiding, then keep hiding.]
Three opponents of that size would have been quite a challenge in the past. But now, Luo Lan felt no unease.
Since the lurking giant spiders had moved away from Luo Lan, Luo Lan focused most of his attention on the two giant spiders in front of him.
The two giant armored spiders on the left and front raised their forelegs high, waving their scythe-like forelimbs, and letting out deafening, sharp hisses, trying to tear apart Luo Lan's defenses with a feint attack.
Luo Lan suddenly took a step forward, his eight thick, long legs shifting a large distance to the left, directly creating distance between himself and the attacker.
The muscles around the eye socket tightened, and thick red blood vessels instantly covered the entire pupil.
【Terrification lv.3】!
The sudden mental shockwave spread out in a fan shape and directly blasted into the dark purple compound eyes of the two giant spiders.
The two massive bodies that charged forward were instantly struck as if by an invisible giant hammer. Their running limbs suddenly froze, and the enormous inertia carried them across the cave floor, carving two deep trenches before they mysteriously froze in place.
Luo Lan didn't look at them again; in his eyes, they were already two corpses.
With all eight limbs exerting force simultaneously, Luo Lan charged straight at the third giant spider lurking behind him.
The lurking giant armored spider had no time to react. It remained firmly pressed against the wall, waiting for its companion to bite its prey before launching a sneak attack and strangling it.
But it saw that its companions, who had been so aggressive just moments before, had suddenly and inexplicably turned into two statues.
Before it could figure out what was going on, Luo Lan's captivating scarlet single eye had already filled its entire field of vision.
Without hesitation, Luo Lan's dark red [Rusty Iron Spear Tip] forelimbs drew a piercing screech in the air and slammed down directly in front of him.
When the lurking giant spider finally realized that Luo Lan's wild charge was aimed at it, it could only hurriedly dispel its camouflage and raise its two seemingly thick forelegs to cross and block the attack.
"Snap!"
The sound of bones shattering rang out without any suspense.
The moment Luo Lan's dark red spider spear tip, reinforced with molten iron, touched the giant spider's original foreleg, it was like an iron skewer piercing roasted meat, severing its hard carapace and soft tissue in two.
The rusted spearhead, having broken through the defenses, continued its relentless advance.
"Pfft!"
Two spider spears pierced the giant spider's head, which was full of compound eyes, and pierced two terrifying, thigh-thick holes on either side of its neck. Two thick, green sap gushed out like bursting high-pressure water pipes.
"hiss--!!"
Having suffered such a severe blow, the giant spider convulsed violently, emitting a desperate, piercing scream. Completely losing its will to fight, it panicked and tried to escape into the depths of the cave for its life.
Luo Lan gave it no chance to struggle for survival. Its other limbs took turns stabbing at it, hammering it with a frequency almost like a pile driver.
The relentless, deadly stabbing shattered the giant spider's hard carapace. Its internal organs were completely torn apart.
The giant spider was stabbed by Luo Lan and turned into a sieve that leaked green blood everywhere.
Having dealt with this one, Luo Lan leisurely returned to the two giant spiders from before.
After getting a new body, Luo Lan's mental energy was even more abundant than before, and he could probably activate [Terror Lv.3] three times in a row.
However, every little bit of skill consumption saved is worthwhile, as the feeling of dizziness and headache is definitely unpleasant.
About a minute had passed since the giant spider, which had been preparing to launch a sneak attack, was dealt with.
The two giant spiders affected by [Terror Lv.3] were still frozen in place, but their bodies had begun to tremble slightly, and it seemed that they would break free of control in a little while.
However, for Luo Lan, they were already dead the moment they ate [Terror Lv.3], and now they were just waiting for Death to swing his scythe.
Luo Lan moved to the right angle, aimed her two forelegs at the two spider heads, and steadily stabbed them down.
The two giant spiders didn't even struggle; their bodies went limp on the ground, twitched twice in the pool of green blood, and then became completely still.
The entire cave was plunged into a deathly silence.
The ground was littered with the corpses of spiders of all sizes, some as large as three, others as small as dozens, their broken shells and juices mixed together, a scene of carnage and blood.
Next, Luo Lan crushed all the corpses on the ground, shells and flesh, into tiny pieces.
With each heavy press of the giant appendage foot, one could hear the cracking of the carapace and the turning of the bones into dust.
He mixed the shattered carapace and soft tissue together, then extended bone claws from his mouth and stuffed handfuls of these fragments into his hands.
[Chaos Essence +350]
[Current Chaotic Essence: 360]
Each intact giant spider carcass, shell and all, yields a reward of around 50 points.
With the addition of dozens of baby spiderlings, Luo Lan reaped a huge sum of 350 points of Chaos Essence.
The bone hand was very efficient at devouring, but there were just too many corpses, and it took Luo Lan quite a while to finish processing them.
The fight against the three giant spiders took only four or five minutes.
The energy spent on eating even exceeds that spent on fighting.
He can take on three opponents single-handedly!
