Chapter 11 The Matter Ends
Chapter 11 The Matter Ends
"Liu Qi, run over here, quick!" Sun Rui shouted, the opportunity was still there.
He understood that Liu Qi's grandparents were not in the same ghost realm. They would only briefly appear in the same ghost realm when someone committed murder, and only then could the two vengeful ghosts hold hands.
They were simultaneously switching between the two ghost realms! This was because Sun Rui's initial supernatural attack on Liu Qi's grandmother was successful; otherwise, the isolation provided by the ghost realms would have prevented its success!
Therefore, the interval between killings cannot be too long. The previous interval between killings was a little too long, which caused everyone to be pulled into another ghost realm. This is why the previous attempts failed!
In fact, Sun Rui felt that this was more like a switch; when one ghost killed someone, it would open its own ghost domain, and when another ghost killed someone, it would open the ghost domain of another ghost.
Liu Qi heard Sun Rui's shouts in the darkness. He didn't know what had happened, but something was probably wrong.
After Sun Rui calmed down, only the echoing footsteps of the vengeful ghost remained in the room. Liu Qi then realized that Sun Rui's attempt had failed.
"Mom and Dad, just stay here and don't move around. Everything will be alright," Liu Qi reassured his parents.
"Xiao Qi, don't! The ghost is right there!" Li Chunxia tried to grab Liu Qi's hand, but without the light, she grabbed nothing. Liu Anguo pulled Li Chunxia back from getting up. He knew this wasn't the time to cause trouble; that special person must have his reasons.
"I'll be fine!" Liu Qi told himself, trying to reassure himself.
He bypassed the location from which the ghost's footsteps came and lunged forward, directly at the spot where Sun Rui had made his voice. However, no one was there. Could it be that Sun Rui had really lied to him?
There was no time to think; the vengeful ghost was already beside him, and that feeling of being controlled by the ghost again returned...
The surrounding darkness was intense, and Grandma's empty, lifeless eyes stared straight at him.
Just when he was about to give up hope, things changed. The surroundings became less dark, his grandmother, who had been looking directly into his eyes, disappeared, and he regained control of his body.
It's Sun Rui!
Sun Rui pressed the two ghosts' hands together, their movements resembling a bowing handshake. This was because Sun Rui had immediately adjusted his position after shouting, fearing he might block the ghosts and accidentally touch them, thus ruining this opportunity!
His forehead was covered in cold sweat; this was the first time he felt like he had been tricked by a vengeful ghost.
"It's all over!" Sun Rui said.
With the moonlight shining down, everything around me could be seen clearly.
It was only then that everyone realized that this was not a room at all; they were still in the mourning hall, just as before the vengeful ghost began killing people. The mourning hall was not yet fully set up. If that letter had been sent out back then, they would have been doomed.
Liu Qi sat on the ground, panting heavily: "It feels so good to be alive!"
Having narrowly escaped death twice, Liu Qi began to crave the power of vengeful ghosts, otherwise he would have no chance to fight back when encountering supernatural events in the future.
"Shall we send the letter now?" Lin Zhensheng asked.
"No rush, we still have time," Sun Rui said.
At this moment, Sun Rui felt that the vengeful ghost in his body seemed to have subsided. Could it be the effect of dealing with the vengeful ghost?
Soon Sun Rui noticed something was wrong; there seemed to be something in the part where the two vengeful ghosts were holding hands.
"It has a faint smell of Chinese medicine." Sun Rui could smell it, and this smell seemed to suppress the resurgence of the vengeful spirit within him.
He stepped forward and examined it closely, confirming that there was indeed something in the middle of his palm, and he could sense that the supernatural presence on the two corpses seemed to have disappeared.
"Should we open it?" Sun Rui thought to himself. If he didn't open it, this trip would have been for nothing, but he couldn't be so reckless.
"Go to the entrance to the village and find a middle-aged man named Wang Guohai. Ask him to find someone who knows how to set up a mourning hall to enter the village," Sun Rui said to Lin Zhensheng, who was standing next to him.
He needs to complete the mail delivery mission first, leaving himself a way out, because only after completing the mission and lighting the black letter can he receive the Ghost Post Office's guidance.
"Okay," Lin Zhensheng said.
"No need for that complicated process, I know how to do it," Liu Qi said. He could tell that Sun Rui and his group had come here for some special mission, and they couldn't afford to fail.
Sun Rui did not refuse, and Liu Qi and Lin Zhensheng began to set up the mourning hall, while Liu Anguo and Li Chunxia helped out.
Only then did he have a chance to check his satellite phone, and sure enough, there was a call from headquarters, indicating that they had also discovered the paranormal events here.
Although the matter was over, he still made the call just to be on the safe side.
"I am Sun Rui."
"A paranormal event occurred at the location you just located. A passing villager called the police. Is the situation alright now?" Zhou Wan asked.
"That's all over. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
In the headquarters communications room, Zhou Wan was speechless at his words. Zhao Jianguo, who was standing next to her, quickly took the phone. He had been paying close attention to Dachang City recently, so he was particularly concerned about this paranormal event.
"Hello, I am Zhao Jianguo."
"Say what you need to say quickly," Sun Rui said, sounding somewhat impatient.
"It's nothing, I just wanted to understand what happened during this paranormal event. Could you please tell me about it over the phone?"
Zhao Jianguo adopted a very humble attitude, after all, Sun Rui was in charge of Dahan City, and he had gone all the way to Dachang City to solve a supernatural incident, which was not his job.
"I'll have my assistant submit a report to you later. Also, this counts as overtime for me, so I should get overtime pay, right?" Sun Rui said with a smile.
They didn't do anything, and now they're asking for information.
Sun Rui wasn't unwilling to give it; he would simply exchange it for resources. After all, he was going to complete the Ghost Post Office's mail delivery mission anyway, so why not take it?
"...Okay, this time it'll count as overtime, and I'll increase your annual gold allowance..."
Before Zhao Jianguo could finish speaking, Sun Rui interrupted him, "I don't need gold. Isn't all the gold in the entire Great Han City enough for me?"
"What do you want?"
"It has to be at least a paranormal item. As for what exactly... give me a list, and I'll choose from it. I'm doing this for future paranormal investigations, right, Captain Zhao?"
Zhao Jianguo understood Sun Rui's meaning: don't try to fool him with these trivial things. But Zhao Jianguo couldn't find any fault with it. Sun Rui had managed Dahan City very well, and there hadn't been any supernatural events for so long. He even went all the way to Dachang City to deal with supernatural events.
"Okay!" Zhao Jianguo agreed after a moment's thought. Anyway, there were still many supernatural items with unknown effects at the headquarters, so there was no point in leaving them there.
"Okay, it's settled then."
Sun Rui hung up the phone. He actually wanted to ask for the ghost money directly, since the headquarters didn't know its specific purpose yet. But then he thought that would be too obvious, so he simply asked him to make a list, since they would eventually give him some things of unknown use anyway.
Time passed quickly, and half an hour later, the bodies of the two elderly people remained unchanged.
"The mourning hall is set up. I've asked Liu Qi and the others to leave first," Lin Zhensheng said as he came to the side.
Sun Rui nodded and took out the letter. The rest of the villagers had already run out, so it was almost time to deliver the letter.
They placed the letter inside the mourning hall, and it soon disappeared. Apart from the chirping of insects, nothing else changed. Their mission to deliver the letter was complete.
Sun Rui put on the golden gloves and went to the two old men's corpses. He thought the hands would be difficult to pry open, but they opened easily.
There was a black pill and a lock inside. Sun Rui had never seen a lock like this before, but he still picked it up and threw it into the body bag.
The two corpses remained unchanged, saving Sun Rui a sheet of paper.
