Chapter 24 Oden's Return!
Chapter 24 Oden's Return!
"Qin, are you serious?" Mills stared at Qin Yu.
"Of course." Qin Yu touched his nose. "Actually, becoming a professional player has always been my dream. If I can't play in the NBA, I'll play in the G League. If I hadn't suffered a serious knee injury, I might already be a professional player."
Oh......
Mills suddenly realized, thought for a moment, and said, "If you want to play in the G League, it's actually quite simple. You're a free agent, you don't have any other contracts, and you don't need to participate in the draft. Just sign with a team directly. As for how to get there? You can join the Idaho Stampede, a G League team that the Trail Blazers partner with, through a 'player development' program."
Is it really that simple?
Qin Yu was taken aback.
He then realized that ten years later, the NBA Development League would be a subordinate unit of the NBA teams, and sending someone there would be a simple matter of a word.
However, at this point in 2010, the Trail Blazers had not yet officially established their own Development League team, but instead partnered with the Idaho Pentair to develop players.
The Idaho Pentagon not only partners with the Portland Trail Blazers, but also with the Denver Nuggets.
Mills was on this team when he was demoted.
However, Mills is a legitimate player on the team, while Qin Yu is just a trainer. He felt it wasn't as simple as Mills made it out to be.
Seeing his hesitation, Mills continued, "Qin, your importance to the team is self-evident. Just tell the management that this is your dream. Besides, Roy, Batum, and I can all attest to your ability, so it won't put them in a difficult position."
Understood!
Qin Yu understood immediately after hearing this.
If you're just an ordinary trainer with no amazing abilities and no professional league level, the team naturally won't pay attention to such a "bizarre" request.
Firstly, Qin Yu is very important to the team; secondly, he is fully capable of playing in the Development League, which makes it easier for the team to manage him.
"Then I'll have to trouble you with this matter," Qin Yu said.
"Don't worry, it's nothing," Mills readily agreed.
......
Qin Yu didn't rush to talk to the team's management about this. Instead, he first communicated with Roy, Batum, Outlaw, Fernandez, Pandegraf, Przybilla, and Oden. They all said it was no problem and they would prove that Qin Yu had the ability to play in the Development League.
That evening, in the Trail Blazers vs. Jazz game, Greg Oden made his official comeback after a serious injury.
Qin Yu, as Oden's "special guest," sat in the front row near the team's bench and watched the game live.
I also got to experience the atmosphere of an NBA game live!
Before the game, many people were discussing Oden's return, and now that the team has officially announced it, no one doubts it anymore.
Oden has only been injured for less than two months!
The fact that he announced his comeback in such a short time is both unbelievable and incredibly exciting for many people.
"Was it because Brandon Roy was injured and sidelined that he made a last-minute return to save the team's record?"
"That must be it, Greg is amazing! But, he's only been back for a little over a month, is his injury truly healed?"
"Didn't you guys hear the news before? Greg's injury has fully recovered with the help of a trainer named Qin Yu. We just need to look forward to Greg's performance tonight..."
"How could that be? It's only been a little over a month!"
This kind of "comeback in the heat" fits the popular "individual heroism" in the United States and is very popular among fans.
So when Oden came out, the whole arena erupted, people chanted his name and welcomed his return!
However, when the game started, perhaps due to excessive excitement, or perhaps because he had been away for too long and had not yet adapted to the rhythm of the game, Oden was very active on the court, but the effect was not good.
......
"Bang!"
With a loud bang, Oden unleashed a powerful two-handed dunk, but the ball missed.
The dunk, which seemed so close and a sure thing, actually went wide!
This frustrated Oden greatly. In the entire first quarter, he only made 1 of 5 shots, which was a putback, and scored only 2 points and 1 rebound.
This performance made many fans frown, further confirming their suspicions that Oden's early return was due to pressure on the team's performance after Roy's injury.
He hasn't fully recovered!
However, after entering the second quarter, Oden quickly adjusted, grabbed an offensive rebound immediately after being substituted back into the game, and then delivered a powerful two-handed dunk.
No problem this time, we've got two points!
He then called for the ball in the low post, backed down, and scored two more points with a hook shot after a spin move, bringing his personal score to 6 points.
Seeing Oden's improved form, his teammates fed him the ball. In the following minutes, Oden stirred up the Jazz's interior, forming a "dominant force" with Aldridge. He not only effectively limited the Jazz's inside scoring but also put up impressive individual stats, scoring 10 points, grabbing 3 rebounds, and blocking 1 shot in the quarter.
At halftime, Oden had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block!
This performance thrilled the home fans, and if Oden was "returning from injury," it would have been even more impressive.
......
In the blink of an eye, the game was over.
In the second half, Oden also performed exceptionally well, scoring 9 points, along with 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 assists, finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 assists. His well-rounded and impressive stats helped the Trail Blazers defeat the Jazz 112-105, delivering a perfect performance in his first game back after returning from injury.
Seeing Oden's performance, Qin Yu was very pleased, but also secretly envious, wondering when he could be like Oden and dominate the NBA court.
......
After the game, Oden attended the press conference.
When asked if he was "returning with an injury," Oden shook his head vigorously, emphasizing seriously, "I'm fully recovered. No, I'm better than before I was injured, and I can play at a high level on the court. Today's game is just the beginning, and I will prove to everyone that I'm back, and I'm even better."
At this point, the reporter pressed further: "But you've only been injured for a little over a month! In such a short time, with injuries like that... I mean, this recovery speed is incredible."
Oden laughed: "Haha, I know it sounds incredible, but it's true. Our team has the best trainer. Not the former Jensen, of course, but the current head trainer, Qin Yu. He's the best trainer in the world, bar none. He's the one who created the medical miracle in my body."
The scene erupted in uproar!
A group of reporters looked at each other in bewilderment. Could it be that the previous rumors were true?
But this doesn't make sense in medicine!
"That's because you're ignorant," Oden said with a mysterious smile, looking like a charlatan. "Have you ever heard of Traditional Chinese Medicine? The magical wonders from China..."
A lecture on traditional Chinese medicine left the reporters completely bewildered.
......
Before the next day was even over, Oden's post-game comments that very evening had spread throughout the NBA community and among fans.
Qin Yu's name has once again become the focus of discussion!
