Chapter 547 Awakening the Ghost
Chapter 547 Awakening the Ghost
Chapter 547 Awakening the Ghost
Back home, Peter felt a familiar yet rare exhaustion. The Spider-Man who appeared today was actually a projection device from the Baxter Building, designed to make Peter Parker and Spider-Man appear simultaneously, thus clearing Spider-Man of suspicion that he was Peter Parker.
Then, Peter slumped onto the bed, picked up his laptop, and began searching for something. A major problem they faced now was that S.H.I.E.L.D. was now under Kang's control, and they were largely under S.H.I.E.L.D. surveillance.
If they can't get rid of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s surveillance, they don't even have a good way to contact Deadpool. After all, Deadpool is still locked up in Raft Prison, and they have no way to bypass S.H.I.E.L.D.'s system to release him.
Even Katie isn't a good choice. If she's caught on camera by S.H.I.E.L.D., Kang will definitely know that the X-Men are trying to rebel against him, which will make things even more complicated.
Except for one person...
Peter was caught in a dilemma.
He knew of someone who could contact Deadpool secretly, release him, and smoothly accomplish a series of troublesome tasks.
However, Peter didn't want to involve Gwen. Others might have already gotten involved in superhero matters to varying degrees, but that was something Peter couldn't stop.
But Gwen...
"Perhaps we can consider other things, like me sneaking away invisibly to take Katie to Deadpool, or something else..."
Just then, the doorbell rang. Peter paused for a moment. Uncle Ben was working overtime, and Aunt May hadn't returned from the charity party yet. He quickly realized who was knocking and went downstairs to open the door. Sure enough, he saw Gwen.
"I saw your new Fantastic Four on TV. You're quite something."
As Gwen spoke, she walked in, sat down in a chair in the restaurant, and asked Peter curiously, "Why did you come up with the idea of a new Fantastic Four?"
"Reid Richards's requirement was that he felt a Fantastic Four was still needed, and I was just selecting the right people."
Peter smiled wryly, still pondering what had just happened, but Gwen didn't seem to care much: "So, you'll be very busy for a while, right?"
"...Yes, it will be much busier than before." Peter paused abruptly after saying this, "We might...still have time to go on dates, to go somewhere else."
"I'm fine here. You'll always have time to rest, won't you?"
Peter paused for a moment, then took a deep breath, walked over to Gwen, and pulled out a chair to sit down.
"Gwen, do you remember the world before Kanglai?"
"...It seems like I don't remember very clearly. I don't know why, but things from the past year are all very vague in my memory, like a dream."
That's probably because most of the things Gwen encounters are related to herself, but when it comes to Spider-Man, she hides them all with the Cosmic Cube.
Gwen sensed Peter's silence and hesitation, so she asked, "Has something happened? You seem to be in a lot of trouble."
"No... I'm just... a superhero, Gwen? You want to be a superhero."
"Don't tell me you have something like this in Baxter Mansion that can turn people into superheroes, and then you use it on yourself."
"Why do you seem to dislike the idea of me being a superhero?"
"Of course I don't want that! Because I know how annoying you are! You're already so helpful now, what will happen when you have superpowers? You'll be even more dedicated!"
Gwen complained unhappily, "I'm not saying you don't have time for me... I... look at those so-called supervillains."
"When I'm afraid you won't be able to defeat some terrible villain, you'll comfort me and say everything's fine, leaving me to worry about whether you'll die in a battle with someone..."
As Gwen spoke, she felt something was strange, as if she and Peter Parker had discussed this topic before, their conversation sounding so familiar, as if it had happened in the past.
"I...I'm even more afraid that I won't be able to help at all, and will just have to watch you go and die like this..."
Gwen looked at him very sincerely.
"You absolutely mustn't actually become a superhero. I know you, you'll definitely die somewhere someday while helping someone else... I don't want that to happen."
For a time, Peter was confused and hesitant about Gwen's desire for and pursuit of superpowers. But now he realizes that Gwen doesn't want superpowers at all, and certainly doesn't want Peter to have them.
Her enthusiasm for these things stemmed from one reason: she worried that she wouldn't be able to help Peter when he needed it someday.
Peter froze for a moment, then shook his head helplessly. He said he would get Gwen a glass of water, then took out his phone to send a message, and then walked over to Gwen's side.
He remained silent for a few more seconds.
"Don't stay silent all the time, it's making me nervous. You haven't gotten yourself some kind of superpower, have you?"
"Can we kiss?"
Peter's words startled Gwen. She blushed and stood up, asking, "Is this a formal confession?"
"I don't know... I just feel like I was taking things for granted before and ignored your feelings."
Gwen, somewhat confused, brushed her hair aside, then watched Peter approach, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes.
When it was over, she also heard Peter's voice.
"I'm sorry to have dragged you into this, Gwen."
What does this mean?
When Gwen opened her eyes, she saw Peter's hand slide open a portal, and a burning skull walked out. Gwen recognized it as Ghost Rider from the new Fantastic Four.
She looked at him, puzzled, and saw Ghost Rider's eyes.
In an instant, a flood of memories rushed into Gwen's mind. Peter quickly supported her, then nodded to the Ghost Rider who had stepped into the portal and left, helping Gwen to sit on the sofa: "Are you alright?"
"I...I didn't even know so much had happened. I had completely forgotten that you were Spider-Man."
Gwen rubbed her head, sorting through her memories, and then realized: "You need my help, right, smart kid? You wouldn't have come to me if you weren't desperate."
"Yes, sorry to drag you into this." Peter smiled somewhat helplessly. "So, can I count on you, Gwen?"
"Hmm... there's a condition."
Gwen smiled.
Kiss me.
