Chapter 61: Not Detective Conan, But Scientific Crime Solving
After Conan entered the yard, he picked up the cat, which was covered in blood, and after carefully examining it, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Xiao Guang is fine, this blood isn't his."
However, he quickly regained his composure, a bad feeling creeping into his mind.
Looking left and right, a huge metal trash can was pushed over. The four of them squeezed together, with Kojima Genta taking up half of the trash can, and peered inside, their feet touching.
A tall man was seen with his head submerged in the bathtub, surrounded by blood, clearly showing no signs of life.
Before the group could even cry out in surprise, a hand holding a phone reached out to the windowsill. After a barely perceptible click, the four of them turned to look at Akutagawa Hiko beside them and immediately felt a sense of relief.
Although there were phone booths nearby, none of them were as fast as Akutagawa Hiko making a direct call through the internal channels.
In the world of Detective Conan, murder, robbery, theft, extortion—all sorts of evil deeds that Akutagawa Hikaru had never encountered more than a few times in his previous life—are now commonplace.
Therefore, their speed in calling the police was in no way inferior to that of professional callers in the later stages. The police car sped by with its sirens blaring, and soon a team of police officers led by Inspector Megure appeared in front of them.
"Brother Akutagawa, you said you discovered a body?"
Without further ado, Akutagawa Hiko opened his phone's photo album and handed it to Inspector Megure: "That's right, the children saw a cat covered in blood, so they climbed in to try and rescue it, but they unexpectedly discovered the body."
With just a few words, the act of trespassing was transformed into a child's act of bravery. Then, Inspector Megure, who looked serious after seeing the photo, rang the doorbell.
"We're police officers, open the door!!"
A short while later, a square-faced man wearing a yukata with a towel around his neck and glasses came in and opened the door: "What's wrong? It's so noisy!"
Inspector Megure pulled out his police badge and said, "We received a report that a body was found in your bathroom. Please allow us to enter and search."
The square-faced man seemed surprised: "A corpse?!"
"That's right, it's in the bathroom!!"
"There's a man lying in the bathtub..."
"Covered in blood!"
The square-faced man scoffed, "That's utter nonsense. I just came out of the bathroom after taking a shower. How could there be a corpse there?"
Having seen the photos, Inspector Megure wasn't going to be polite. He pushed open the door and headed straight for the bathroom: "Excuse my rudeness, but we need to inspect your bathroom."
However, the bathroom was spotless; there wasn't a single hair, let alone a corpse.
From the time the police were called to their arrival, it took less than fifteen minutes. Being able to clean up the scene without leaving any traces is quite a talent for crime.
A smug and relaxed look flashed in the square-faced man's eyes: "Look, there's no corpse at all. I think the person who called the police just wanted to make a fool of you cops."
The children weren't about to let him get away with it and insisted on searching the area, convinced that this person had hidden the body.
"Hmph, search all you want. I'm going back upstairs to sleep. There's nothing in the house that's shameful anyway. My brother will be back soon; you can ask him if you have any questions!"
To escape punishment, the square-faced man devised a meticulous plan. Although the early arrival of the police made his preparations a little rushed, the plan was still flawless.
Next, all you need to do is change your disguise, climb over the wall from that hidden corner, return with your real identity, and then use the pre-recorded phone call to create the illusion that your brother is still alive.
The incompetent police officers who couldn't find the body naturally had to go back to where they came from. The meddlesome person who made the call might even be held accountable. It was a win-win situation with many unexpected benefits.
The square-faced man secretly gloated over his flawless plan to hide the corpse, and his imitation of his brother's arrogance and irritability was even more realistic, completely outshining Conan's elementary school acting skills.
Inspector Megure was about to nod when he saw Akutagawa Hiko block the bathroom doorway with his hand: "You can't leave."
Just as the square-faced man was about to explode in anger, a phone with its screen lit up was placed in front of him, and cold sweat instantly broke out on his brow.
"You need to cooperate with the investigation. After all, you're the only one in the house right now, with a body that hasn't been found yet. You think you can just go to sleep now? You're not so lucky."
This elderly man was clearly unaware of the advancements in technology and hadn't expected that his phone already had a camera function; he froze in place.
Akutagawa Hiko said calmly, "Even if you really wash the bloodstains until they are undetectable, it doesn't mean they are truly clean. Blood is more resilient than you can imagine."
After saying that, Akutagawa Hiko turned to Inspector Megure: "Inspector, shouldn't the Metropolitan Police Department have luminol reagent?"
Inspector Megure paused for a moment, but after so many years as a police officer, he immediately realized: "That's right, there are some."
Inspector Megure knew about this thing, but in the past, when he responded to a case, there was always a body on hand, so he had almost never encountered a situation where he needed to prove the existence of a body.
Of course, skilled detectives can also deduce the details of a crime from the location where bloodstains remain, thus achieving the goal of solving murder cases.
However, they don't have such people there.
Naturally, such substances that are harmful to the human body are generally not stored in police cars.
He immediately dispatched his capable lieutenant, Wataru Takagi, to the Metropolitan Police Department to retrieve the luminol reagent.
"Do you need me to explain this to you? Luminol reagent, also known as luminol, can detect extremely small amounts of blood residue, even after many years. You don't really think you've washed it perfectly clean, do you? Really? Really?"
Akutagawa Hiko looked the guy up and down, who was pretending to be his brother and trying to hide the body, and shook his head: "Tsk tsk tsk, it's obvious you don't pay attention to what's happening in the outside world."
The square-faced man tried to make a last-ditch effort to sneak away, but with Akutagawa Hiko watching him, anyone who could escape was no longer in this world.
Soon, Wataru Takagi arrived before the group, panting, carrying a bottle of yellow powder: "Inspector, I've brought back the luminol reagent."
"It's so noisy!! Can't you guys be quiet for a second?!"
Before the testing personnel could even begin, a sound so loud it shook the house shook thrice, drawing everyone's attention to the square-faced man with a gloomy expression.
Because the voice was exactly the same as that of the man who claimed there was no body in his house.
"The sound is coming from the second floor, Inspector Megure. Let's go upstairs and check it out."
Inspector Megure was about to see what was going on when, to his surprise, the square-faced man grabbed a rather heavy metal showerhead and charged at Akutagawa Hiko.
Akutagawa Yan:......
Why does this have to happen every time? It must be a problem with this world; it's targeting me!
