Chapter 49: Deep Misunderstandings
Chapter 49: Deep Misunderstandings
Mike Montagu has been living alone in his Riverside apartment for two or three years now.
Throughout his relatively short period of living alone, Mike was never able to escape his father Bill's arrangements; he always knew that he was under his father's protection.
The bodyguards surrounding the apartment and those following Mike, whether they were protecting him secretly or in disguise, could not escape Mike's eyes and were eventually recognized one by one.
There was only one exception: Iniz Blatt, who lived in the apartment next door.
If Mike overheard the bodyguard complaining about "the one in the apartment," he wouldn't even realize he was there.
It was only then that Mike realized with surprise that he had never met this neighbor in the apartment before, and he had no recollection of her at all.
To verify whether the "person in the apartment" mentioned by the bodyguard really existed, Mike launched a private investigation. He obtained the apartment's owner information and confirmed that the apartment next door was registered under Bill Montagu's name.
Frustration arose, but he was unable to defeat Mike Montagu.
Perhaps it was his rebellious streak that was triggered, or perhaps it was his competitive spirit that was at play, but Mike, full of fighting spirit, vowed to find his neighbor.
Time flew by, but Mike gained nothing. His initial confidence turned into apathy and despair. Sometimes he even wondered if there was something wrong with his brain, and whether "the one in the apartment" only existed in his imagination.
Fortunately, the owner registration information clearly stated Bill Montagu's name, and fortunately, he occasionally heard bodyguards complaining about "the guy in the apartment" being arrogant, aloof, and difficult to get along with. This prevented Mike from making an appointment with a doctor to treat his brain, which caused him to doubt himself.
That's why Mike was so surprised on the night of the first attack.
That evening, the usually mysterious next-door neighbor took the initiative to come over, though he only stood outside the door and did not show himself.
That evening, the neighbor who came to visit did not seem arrogant or aloof at all. She seemed quite approachable and spoke very politely to Anastasia.
Mike was too preoccupied with the trauma of killing his own kind to think about it, which caused him to miss the opportunity to uncover the truth and expose his mysterious neighbor.
Tonight, Iniz Blatt unveiled his mystery, walked openly before Mike, and no longer held anything back from him.
When Mike emerged from the dark underground space and returned to the brightly lit theater, and when he saw Bratt's face clearly, Mike Montagu was completely dumbfounded!
Mike never imagined that the person who had been protecting him in the apartment next door was actually Iniz Blatt, his own uncle!
"It's been a long time, Uncle Iniz!" Mike said through gritted teeth.
“No, Mike, I see you every day,” Eniz Blatt said. “I see you go out every night and come back late at night, sometimes with women.”
Upon hearing this, Jolina pouted, a hint of jealousy flashing across her bright face.
Anastasia also pursed her lips. It turned out that Bill Montagu wasn't going to take over the business. That made things pointless.
"You live right next door to me, why do you never see me!" Mike looked furious. "And when did you get back? Weren't you kicked out by that old man?!"
In Mike's memory, his only uncle was kicked out of the house and out of Gloria by his father.
“I live right next door to you, but you didn’t come knocking!” Iniz Blatt said. “And you shouldn’t have said that about Bill. The claim that Bill kicked me out is completely unfounded. You’ve been fooled again.”
"You don't need to speak up for that old man," Mike said. "I saw you and the old man argue in the study, and you left Gloria the next day."
"I argued with Bill because of you, my foolish nephew," Iniz Blatt said. "I left Gloria because of you too. Some people were gossiping about you, and I had to deal with them."
Anastasia wasn't fully aware of the conflict between Montague and his son, only assuming that it stemmed from their unpleasant relationship, which led to the escalation of the conflict.
After hearing what Blatt said tonight, Anastasia was almost certain that there was a huge misunderstanding between the Montague father and son, and that it was Mike who was misunderstanding his father Bill.
Pay attention, this is important.
Blatt said that some people had gossiped about Mike before.
Anastasia had reason to suspect that the gossiping was likely related to the early-deceased Lady Montague.
"Since you say you weren't kicked out, why didn't you write to me?" Mike pressed. "What has been on your mind for so many years that you didn't even have time to write a letter?"
"I was out taking care of other things," Iniz Blatt said. "It was my oversight not to write to you."
Iniz Blatt was out there dealing with something very important, something that was important to him and to the Montagues.
"Mike, you have a lot of misunderstandings about Bill." Blatt was trying to take the initiative in the conversation. "Those ill-intentioned people talking nonsense in front of you, coupled with Bill's unwillingness to explain, have created a rift between you and your son."
Iniz Blatt's earnest words failed to gain control of the conversation, nor did they resolve the misunderstanding in Mike's heart.
The problems between the Montague father and son have existed for many years and cannot be resolved in a few words. Language is far from enough to dispel the grudges and resolve the rift.
"Fine! I guess I misunderstood the old man!" Mike said. "Now that you're back in Gloria and living next door to me, why did you and the old man keep it from me? Why didn't you tell me!"
As he said this, Mike Montagu's eyes reddened. Although no tears welled up in his eyes, it was clear that he was truly saddened.
"Mike, there are some things that neither I nor anyone else are intentionally trying to hide from you," Eniz Blatt said patiently. "In some ways, you've been too naive, and there are some things you wouldn't understand even if I told you."
Mike wanted to retort, but Blatt didn't give him the chance.
"In this respect, Bill and I are both grateful to Miss Angel for her help," Blatt said, nodding in thanks. "Although your methods were a bit rough, Mike has indeed grown a lot these past few days."
Anastasia shook her head and said, "I don't feel like I'm helping; I'm just making the choice that's best for me. Fortunately, Mike didn't give up."
At this moment, completely bewildered, Jolina had no idea what the three of them were talking about.
Jolena glanced at Mike, whose eyes were red and swollen, then at Anastasia and Blatt, but she still couldn't get a single explanation.
"Mike is Bill and his sister's son, and I believe he will grow into a real man someday," Eniz Blatt said, "not the kind of man who just drinks and chases girls."
It was clear that Iniz Blatt was still somewhat dissatisfied with Mike's lifestyle.
"Mike, you have a deep misunderstanding about Bill," Blatt continued. "You've matured a lot lately, and I think you and Bill should have a man-to-man talk."
Upon hearing this, Mike stubbornly turned his head away, neither agreeing nor objecting.
"Since no objections have been raised, I'll take that as tacit agreement. Besides, Bill is also eager to speak with Miss Angel," Iniz Blatt continued. "Tomorrow, let's set it for tomorrow."
Iniz Blatt looked at Anastasia, awaiting her reply.
"That's exactly what I was thinking, Mr. Blatter," Anastasia readily agreed. "I'd love to know just how big a mess Mr. Montague has gotten himself into."
The meeting with Lopez was scheduled for the day after tomorrow so that there would be time to meet with Bill Montagu.
Only by understanding the real reasons why Montagu was targeted and how dangerous his situation really is can we better negotiate with Lopez.
Therefore, Anastasia deliberately left tomorrow out of her schedule, and even if Iniz Blatt said nothing, Anastasia would take the initiative to suggest meeting with Bill Montague.
Iniz Blatt was a smart man, and he immediately guessed Anastasia's intention, so he went along with her and arranged to meet on the tomorrow that he had deliberately left empty.
If it weren't for this deliberately left-out day, we could only meet under the stars and talk by candlelight late into the night.
