Chapter 38: Thank you, Riddle
Chapter 38: Thank you, Riddle
"Thank you, Riddle."
Early in the morning, as soon as she returned to the tavern, Loila happily wrote in her diary.
"What's wrong?" Riddle answered quickly. "Did you kill that beast?"
"Huh?" Loila blinked in surprise, then quickly said, "That beast is none other than Mr. Lupin."
"..."
Riddle remained silent for a long time, so long that Loila wondered if he had died again.
"I understand," he replied slowly. "Then why are you thanking me?"
"If Mr. Riddle hadn't told me, I might not have known Mr. Lupin's true identity, and therefore wouldn't have been able to help him," Loira continued. "And I also promised Mr. Lupin that I would help him make the wolfsbane potion."
"Thank you so much, Mr. Riddle!"
"No need to thank me." Riddle's attitude seemed a bit strange. Was he being difficult?
Loila pursed her lips and thought for a few seconds, then vaguely had an answer in her mind.
Perhaps it's because Mr. Riddle is blaming himself?
He thought it was a wild animal that had taken Mr. Lupin away, but it was actually Mr. Lupin himself...
"It's alright, Mr. Riddle, Mr. Lupin isn't hurt," Loira said reassuringly. "We're all very grateful to you."
"You told Lupin about me?" Riddle replied quickly this time, seemingly quite sensitive about the matter.
"No, not at all." Loila tapped her pen lightly. "Because I feel I should get your permission."
Although Mr. Riddle was just a memory, Loira felt that he might not have been that fond of making friends.
A solitary genius!
I could immediately picture it in my mind.
"That's good." Riddle's reply further confirmed Loira's suspicions: "Don't tell anyone about my affairs."
"I am nothing more than a memory."
Of course, what else would you be?
Loila smiled and nodded. She was especially happy today. She knew Mr. Lupin's secret, and she was closer to him. Moreover, she had said the words she had always wanted to say.
"Because we're friends!"
That was such a cool line. Loila had always wanted to have the chance to say it, and she also felt that she could help Mr. Lupin.
All that's needed is to refine the wolfsbane potion... This potion was invented while Loila was in a coma, but Loila had seen the recipe before when she had nothing else to do.
I even tried it out a little.
It's not difficult to refine it for Mr. Lupin now... Of course, the prerequisite is that you first need a crucible and suitable materials.
But she was penniless and her few Galleons were not enough to buy expensive medicine... She should wait until she met Dumbledore.
Ask him to give me an advance on several months' salary... even though I've already received enough in advance.
Shaking her head, Loila slowly closed her diary. Calculating the time, Miss Lovegood might be arriving soon.
She was about to take the final steps in preparing the communication wristband...
Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Miss Lovegood pushed the door open and came in.
"What happened outside?" Luna asked, tilting her head as soon as she entered the room.
"N-no...no..." Feeling a little guilty, Loila subconsciously lowered her head, not daring to look into Luna's bright eyes.
"Oh, I see..." Luna seemed to understand something. She skipped over to Loila and reached out to pinch Loila's pointed ears.
"Ugh!" Loila exclaimed, taking a few steps back. "Lovegood...Miss Lovegood!"
Seeing Loila blush, Luna curled the corners of her lips: "From now on, every time Loila lies to me, I'll pinch your ear."
"I...I'm sorry..." Loila didn't mean to deceive Luna, but this wasn't her own business, and it didn't seem right to casually reveal Mr. Lupin's affairs.
"This isn't...this isn't my...matter..." she whispered, causing Luna to tilt her head. "Then will this affect Loira?"
"I think... is there?"
"Well, this is actually my business," Luna's light voice echoed in the room. "After all, we're friends, aren't we?"
Why did you say my lines? These are lines I've been holding back for so long, and you just said them so easily?
But to be honest, Miss Lovegood's words were indeed very effective, making Loila's face turn even redder and she became even more embarrassed.
"Tell me if you really need help." Seeing that Loira seemed a little hesitant, Luna considerately tiptoed and whispered in Loira's ear, "It's your little secret!"
"Ah, I love little secrets the most," Luna nodded. "Just like I love the Curved-Horned Snorkel!"
"I..." Suddenly pressed so close, Loila stammered, unable to speak. When she felt the heat on her ear, she felt her brain freeze.
She needs time to reboot...
"When do you want to start making it?"
Miss Lovegood's words were indeed a good startup prompt, making Loila shake her head and wake up.
"How about... right now?"
"good!"
........................
"Does Miss Hamilton know?" Dumbledore nodded gently, looking at Lupin's face, which was a little tired but had a slight smile on it. "And the result doesn't seem to be as pessimistic as you expected."
“That’s right.” Lupin pursed his lips, his smile fading slightly. “Miss Hamilton wasn’t afraid of me… in fact… nothing has changed.”
"That shows she's always considered you a friend." Dumbledore nodded thoughtfully. "Isn't that a good thing?"
"Whether it's for you or for her."
"Hmm." Lupin nodded and slowly sat down in the chair in front of Dumbledore.
"So... Remus, what are you doing here?" Dumbledore asked slowly. "Miss Hamilton still needs your care."
"I'm here to tell you my thoughts," Lupin said earnestly, pursing his lips. "I want to investigate...that person's matter."
Dumbledore's expression also turned serious. After a few seconds of contemplation, he said, "Voldemort's situation is dangerous."
"And it shouldn't be you doing this, Remus... your body..."
"Miss Hamilton said she would help me concoct the wolfsbane potion," Lupin said, pursing his lips. "And I want to repay her."
"So I'm hoping you can offer me a new job; I need more gallons."
A new job?
That's right... taking care of Miss Hamilton's life and observing her before she entered Hogwarts was also a job that Dumbledore offered to Lupin. Although the job didn't actually pay much, Lupin was still very grateful to him.
Now, Lupin seems to feel that this job has no value anymore.
"Is that so?" Dumbledore nodded slightly, Lupin's words making him think for a long time.
"You're right, Remus." Dumbledore nodded slightly. "If Miss Hamilton is willing to help you with the wolfsbane potion..."
"I would certainly be willing to offer you a new job, a new job with the Order of the Phoenix," Dumbledore said, lowering his voice. "Quirok went to the Albanian forests before returning to school."
"I understand." Lupin nodded gently. "I will go there to investigate."
"But what about Miss Hamilton..." Dumbledore said hesitantly.
"I believe in him, Headmaster Dumbledore." Lupin smiled gently. "Just as you said, she is far stronger than we imagine."
