Chapter 11 Everyone worships Guan Yu; we are all one family.
"We absolutely cannot let Huang Zhicheng go, but the Ministry of the Interior has a different idea."
Lu Qichang's sense of crisis instantly surged, and his face immediately turned grim.
"Could it be that the Ministry of the Interior has reached some kind of deal with Huang Chih-cheng?"
He Chu nodded slightly.
Lu Qichang immediately spoke up:
"Inspector Ho, we need to hurry."
He Chu immediately stood up and said,
"Officer Lu, I'll arrange it right away!"
Huang Zhicheng stared in astonishment at the person sitting opposite him and said:
"Inspector Ho, weren't you still in the uniform department?"
"Why are you interrogating me?"
His pupils suddenly contracted.
"You've switched to plainclothes duty?"
He Chu, with a faint smile on his face, spoke.
"Thanks to you, I finished my term in the uniformed department three and a half years early and have now been transferred to the serious crimes unit as an undercover officer."
Huang Zhicheng was slightly taken aback at first, then shook his head.
"You have to work in the uniformed department for five years before you can transfer to plainclothes; that's a hard and fast rule in the police force."
"Rules are rigid, but people are flexible."
"Five years in military uniform before being transferred to civilian clothes is just an average standard."
"Many people spend their entire lives working in the uniform department and never get a chance to transfer to another position."
"Only those exceptionally capable individuals can leave the uniformed department early and become plainclothes detectives."
"Being able to serve for five years and then smoothly become an undercover officer is already considered very good, but Inspector Ho, you only served for a year and a half before you were directly promoted to undercover officer."
"This kind of thing isn't something just anyone can do."
"Inspector Ho truly has a bright future ahead of him!"
Huang Zhicheng commented on the matter slowly and deliberately, in the tone of a veteran police officer.
There was also a hint of envy in his tone that he couldn't hide.
He Chu smiled upon hearing this and said:
"Then I'll take your kind words."
He gently placed his hands on the table, a genuine smile spreading across his face.
"Speaking of which, I really have to thank you."
Huang Zhicheng was stunned upon hearing this:
"Thank me?"
He Chu spoke earnestly and with a serious expression.
"Of course, I must thank you properly."
"If it weren't for you, how could I have risen to the position of Inspector in the West Kowloon Regional Crime Unit in such a short time?"
"By the same token, without you, how could I have established myself in the Major Crimes Unit so quickly?"
Huang Zhicheng instantly understood the meaning behind He Chu's words, and immediately sneered, saying,
"Officer Ho, are you absolutely certain you've got me cornered?"
He Chu, with a faint smile still on his face, said:
"Of course!"
"You're simply my destiny!"
"It was because of your affair that I had the opportunity to be transferred from the Military Uniform Department to the Major Crimes Unit."
"Once your case is proven and you are convicted, I will have taken the first step in my career as an undercover officer in the Serious Crimes Unit."
"If you're not my benefactor, then who are you?"
Huang Zhicheng flew into a rage on the spot and slammed his fist on the table:
"So you're saying you've got me cornered?"
He Chu shrugged indifferently:
"That's roughly the idea!"
Huang Zhicheng was so angry at his words that he laughed:
"Who gave you the audacity to use me as a stepping stone to climb the ladder?"
He Chu pointed to the thick stack of files in his hand.
"Your case has a very clear outline, and the relevant criminal facts have basically been verified and confirmed."
"The higher-ups assigned your case to me, which is basically giving me a huge credit."
"You must know that, right?"
Meanwhile, outside the one-way mirror in the interrogation room, Superintendent Chen and Lu Qichang stood observing. Superintendent Chen frowned and spoke in a deep voice,
"How can you speak like that, Inspector Ho?"
"Saying that will only enrage Huang Zhicheng. How could that old fox possibly cooperate?"
"I appointed him as the presiding judge because I thought Huang Zhicheng would lower his guard and reveal his weaknesses because he was young."
"Who would have thought he would actually..."
Lu Qichang, however, had complete confidence in He Chu.
In his eyes, He Chu was a top-notch police cadet who saw through the old detective's probing tactics when he was studying at the police academy and managed to "survive" his way to becoming an inspector through sheer cunning.
Although Lu Qichang couldn't understand why He Chu deliberately provoked Huang Zhicheng from the start, he had absolute confidence in He Chu's abilities.
"Don't worry, Sir. He must have his own considerations and reasons for doing this."
Upon hearing this, Superintendent Chen could only offer a helpless, bitter smile:
"I hope he really has his reasons."
Just as Superintendent Chen had predicted, Wong Chi-shing in the interrogation room was completely enraged:
"You really dare to use me as a stepping stone to climb the ladder?"
He Chu smiled slightly and said:
"Is that not allowed?"
Huang Zhicheng immediately let out two cold laughs:
"You're just daydreaming."
"Do you really think you can convict me based on these few files you have?"
"You're dreaming!"
He Chu remained calm and composed.
"Is that not allowed?"
Huang Zhicheng immediately burst into laughter.
"That's definitely not going to work!"
After he finished laughing, his face darkened, and he spoke with a cold laugh.
"You're just a new plainclothes officer who's recently transferred to another post. You have no idea how many difficulties we frontline criminal investigators encounter in actual cases, and how much we're not in control of our own destiny."
Huang Zhicheng suddenly leaned forward and pointed at the dossier in He Chu's hand.
"Based on what's recorded in the case file, there's absolutely no way they could convict me!"
"I'm going to teach you a lesson today!"
"Frontline criminal police officers like us in the major crimes unit are naturally flexible and adaptable in handling cases."
"Those drug lords, arms cartels, and gangs are all ruthless characters who do all sorts of evil deeds."
"To fight these people, you have to be more ruthless and drastic than them."
"Many of the methods we use in handling cases fall into the gray area between legality and illegality."
"For example... the things I explained in my case file are like that."
A smug smile curled at the corners of his mouth.
"You think you can convict me based on what I confessed to?"
"That's utterly wishful thinking!"
Through the one-way mirror, Superintendent Chen's expression grew increasingly grim, and he spoke in a deep voice:
"That bastard Huang Zhicheng has accurately pinpointed our Achilles' heel."
"He's right. We can't possibly convict him based solely on what he confessed."
Lu Qichang sighed heavily to the side.
"Otherwise, you wouldn't have specifically transferred Inspector Ho to handle this case."
Superintendent Chen's face was full of worry:
"Can Inspector Ho withstand this pressure?"
Lu Qichang nodded heavily, his tone extremely firm.
"able!"
"He definitely can!"
"Does Inspector Ho have the guts?"
Superintendent Chen's face still showed hesitation and a lack of confidence.
"I hope so!"
He Chu, still smiling, looked at Huang Zhicheng and spoke.
"Why are you being so modest with me?"
"Deep down, you're not actually worried at all, right?"
"Even if we insist on convicting you, don't you still have a backup plan?"
Huang Zhicheng's face showed a hint of curiosity, and he asked:
"What backup plans do I have?"
He Chu didn't beat around the bush and spoke directly:
"What's there to hide?"
"Isn't your greatest asset the Ministry of the Interior?"
"You've planned this all along, you've made all the necessary preparations, haven't you?"
Huang Zhicheng remained silent for a long time, then suddenly burst into laughter, a wild and unrestrained laugh.
"Now that you've figured out my hand, what can you possibly do?"
Superintendent Chen's face instantly turned ashen as he looked through the one-way mirror.
"That bastard is right, we really don't know what to do with him right now."
"Many of the methods we use to deal with those big drug lords and large criminal groups are already in a gray area of ambiguity."
Lu Qichang stood to the side, silent.
Within the police force, there are many people who act even more egregiously than Wong Chi-shing.
He couldn't help but start to panic. Huang Zhicheng was clearly fearless. How could he possibly subdue him?
This has clearly become an unsolvable problem.
Can Inspector Ho really handle this?
He Chu looked at him as if he were a joke.
"Do you really think we arrested you because your methods against the Ni family were too bloody and violent?"
Huang Zhicheng immediately frowned and asked in return:
"Isn't that right?"
He Chu remained calm and slowly began to speak.
"Of course not!"
"We arrested you because you and Han Chen were secretly working together, using the pretense of infiltrating each other to help each other climb the ranks."
"We are taking action against you because you have no regard for the lives of your colleagues and have recklessly trampled on the bottom line of the police force."
"The brothers in the police force are people we can entrust our backs to without reservation, but you have crossed the line for all of us!"
Huang Zhicheng was taken aback for a moment, then instantly became furious and shouted angrily.
Even so, what can you do to me?
Both Superintendent Chen and Lu Qichang, looking through the one-way mirror, turned their gazes to He Chu, wondering how Huang Zhicheng should be punished.
The current situation is far from being a simple matter; it's a very difficult and troublesome one.
With the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a backup plan, Huang Zhicheng is practically invincible.
The two racked their brains but still couldn't come up with any way to deal with Huang Zhicheng.
He Chu looked quietly at Huang Zhicheng and spoke with utmost sincerity:
"You are truly my lucky star."
"You not only made room for me, but also risked your own life to help me take my first step in the Major Crimes Unit. Now you've given me such a valuable lesson."
"I assure you, I will never forget your kindness in this lifetime."
"As for how you should be punished... tell me, if the Ni family finds out that Ni Kun was killed by your scheme, what will happen to you?"
A sudden, uncontrollable panic surged within Huang Zhicheng:
How could the Ni family have known the inside story?
He Chu's lips curled into a mocking smile.
"Naturally, it was our informants who spread the news."
"You can rest assured, our police force will absolutely not take responsibility for such a thing."
"You act without any moral boundaries and are completely inhumane, but we still have to maintain the reputation of the police force."
He shrugged indifferently.
"The police force will absolutely not mention a single word about this matter publicly."
"However..."
"You just said it yourself,"
"Our brothers on the front line of criminal investigation face extremely difficult conditions when handling cases."
"We will only resort to unconventional methods when we have no other choice."
"Ni Kun's death turned the entire Hong Kong underworld upside down."
"This is a major event that could cause a huge upheaval."
"I don't need to elaborate on how valuable such insider information is."
"Whoever gets this information will definitely earn a second glance from the higher-ups."
Cold sweat instantly beaded on Huang Zhicheng's forehead. He sprang up from his chair and roared.
"No!"
"You can't do that!"
"What you're doing is a blatant violation of police discipline!"
He Chu stared at Huang Zhicheng with a look of surprise:
"Are you out of your mind?"
"When have I ever broken any rules?"
"In our eyes, you're a fucking criminal!"
"We have never leaked a single word about you."
"The message was leaked by an undercover agent, what the hell does that have to do with us?"
Huang Zhicheng screamed repeatedly.
"No, what you're doing is breaking the rules. You're knowingly making a mess of things."
He Chu spoke slowly and deliberately.
"I've said it before, you are my lucky star, you are purely selfless."
"You personally gave up your position for me, and then used your own experience to serve as a warning to me."
"What's most commendable is that before you confessed and accepted your punishment, you personally taught me so many tricks of the trade."
"I was truly moved."
A mocking smile appeared on his face.
"You taught me that you have to be ruthless when dealing with certain people."
"Look at me, wouldn't you call me a good, obedient student?"
Outside the interrogation room, Superintendent Chan and Luk Kai-cheung clapped their hands and cheered in unison!
Huang Zhicheng used the Ministry of the Interior as a shield, which really made the two men hesitant to act.
This guy is clearly just throwing caution to the wind and acting like a scoundrel.
Unfortunately, the two of them didn't really have a good way to deal with him for the time being.
But when He Chu mentioned this method, the two of them looked at each other and froze on the spot.
Superintendent Chen spoke with a wry smile.
"How come it was so simple? How come I couldn't figure it out?"
Lu Qichang also gave a wry smile.
"Because of this, I haven't had a good night's sleep for two days."
"If we'd known the solution was this simple, why were we both looking so worried before?"
Superintendent Chen shook his head and smiled wryly.
"This is no simple matter!"
"If we can't break free from our established mindset, we'll naturally find it incredibly difficult."
Lu Qichang nodded repeatedly in agreement.
"We are police officers after all, and we can't act like those gangsters who have no bottom line."
"Huang Zhicheng is so confident because he knows this."
