On social media, Grandma An and Tiantong live freely in their respective roles.
Grandma has been handling all the band's recent performances and rehearsals.
The reason given was that it was a turbulent period, and it was best to be cautious and avoid being found to be suspicious, as there would always be some monsters and demons who would emerge.
Chapter 143: Mai Sakurajima
Candlelight flickered on the table, and two rows of people dressed in white mourning clothes stood in front of the mourning hall.
"I've wanted to quit school for a long time, but I never expected it to happen this way."
Ash from the back door swirled upwards.
Yukinoshita squatted on the ground, her face glowing red from the flames.
The father was tried by Kira, and the mother, though not guilty of a capital offense, was also sent to prison for further studies.
Yukino Yukinoshita, who had just started studying at Chiba University, abruptly dropped out of school and returned home to take over the family business.
Light Yagami didn't say anything, and silently burned paper money.
"You're really something, coming to keep vigil. Didn't your family ask you to break up with Yukino?"
Yukinoshita Haruno spoke in a half-joking tone.
She knew the answer.
"Yes, they all want me to distance myself from the Yukinoshita family. As a family that Kira praised, the eldest son is in love with the daughter of a criminal who has just been tried."
"It's as if the Shinomiya and Fujiwara families aren't like that."
Yukino Yukinoshita pouted.
Isn't it because those prominent families look down on the small landowners in Chiba who started their businesses in the construction industry?
"If the mistakes made by parents do not benefit their children, there is no need to make a big deal out of it. Yukino Shinobu's family did not make a profit through corruption. At least they did some work and provided jobs for ordinary people."
Light Yagami looked up at Yukino, who was standing quietly in the doorway, and continued:
“The foundation I founded almost became a tool for those politicians to make money. They pocketed the money that was meant to save other people’s lives, and some even embezzled the unemployment benefits meant for others, causing many families to starve to death in that winter when there was no coal mining.”
"Aren't you afraid of being overheard saying these things and being labeled as an anti-Kira?" Yukino Yukinoshita noticed her sister on top of her and chuckled.
"It's been a long time since I've seen Yukino cry. The last time was when she came back from her vacation abroad."
"My sister is so unreliable." Yukino Yukinoshita lowered her eyes.
She hid from her family for three whole years.
The once gentle father has become a terrifying executioner, and the mother has become an accomplice. The older sister's concealment was only to train herself, but she never expected it to cause such a big fuss and damage the reputation of the Yukinoshita family.
"I'm going to kneel down now. If Yue has something to do, go back early."
Yukinoshita Yono stood up after speaking.
She paused briefly as she passed Yukino, then quickly moved on.
From Yukino Yukinoshita's perspective, the older sister suddenly knelt down on the grass mat at the front.
The three were arranged side by side, leaving room for her and her boyfriend.
"Now do you know why we put Xiangzi in charge?"
Light Yagami handed over a bundle of paper money.
"Break down the two 'whatever's' because there's no need to deify Kira anymore. The whole system is gradually being perfected, but it can't be done all at once; it's a gradual, cyclical process."
Yukino Yukinoshita pondered before answering.
“In the past, there was no one I could trust. In order to achieve unification, I could only deify myself and let them lift me up high. But in the end, this world will have to be handed over to them.”
"Back then, there was no puberty syndrome, right? Once Yue died, the world would go back to normal, and the person who lifted you up would immediately smash you to pieces."
Yukino Yukinoshita is no longer an ordinary high school student.
Having traveled to many countries, she can be considered a proletarian fighter, even though she comes from a capitalist family.
"I became Kira with the intention of being shattered to pieces. I knew I wouldn't live long after exchanging for the Death Eyes. I don't know when Ryuk will get bored and kill me. If someone discovers my identity, I won't escape death either."
Light Yagami recounted his most tragic past in the calmest of tones.
In a world where the male-to-female ratio is fixed, the historical cycle is an almost inviolable iron law. Yet, he alone, in a world devoid of proletarian ideology, is advocating that people should be human beings, not kneeling slaves.
"I don't hate you for killing your father anymore. Only you can change the world."
The more Yukino Yukinoshita understands, the more she realizes why, despite the world being full of oppression and injustice, there has been no complete resistance or uprising.
Historically, it was often men who rioted, while resistance led and participated entirely by girls was extremely rare. The girls she saw in school didn't think about improving themselves; they were all fighting amongst themselves and trying to bully her away.
Every boy enjoys a superior status and never thinks of rebelling, while the girls fight amongst themselves and never stand up for each other.
Everywhere was a scene of singing and dancing in peace and prosperity.
"As long as this idea is spread and a seed is planted in their hearts, even if I fail, there will be successors. Even if I die, my ideas will not die. That's enough."
Light Yagami patted Yukino on the shoulder, who was still deep in thought.
"Let's go, I'm not going back tonight. I'll kneel here all night before I leave."
Dressed in white, Light Yagami knelt at the front, with various relatives behind him.
They held various positions in Chiba, were frequent guests on television, and were the kind of people others would gladly fawn over.
Even from behind, Light Yagami, who was kneeling, was a head taller than the Yukinoshita sisters next to him.
Mai Sakurajima walked to the front of the line as if no one else was there.
"You've grown taller again."
She gestured to indicate her height and exclaimed.
Their presence gradually diminishes, to the point that no one notices them; this seems to be the legendary adolescent syndrome.
Having heard the news that Light Yagami was keeping vigil at Yukinoshita's house, she hitched a ride and hurried over.
Perhaps a way to recover can be found here.
...
"Mai Sakurajima?"
Misa Amane noticed the name and information of a romanceable character appearing on the radar. She was taken aback, as it seemed to be the first time she had seen it.
I searched on my phone but didn't find any messages.
"Isn't this wrong?"
[Perhaps it's a wild form of puberty syndrome.]
"Ok?"
Misa Amane pulled out a small television.
It seemed as if someone unseen poked the corner of her boyfriend's mouth.
He was unaware of it.
Thinking it was the wind, I looked left and right in surprise.
While Misa Amane was still wondering.
A series of information about Mai Sakurajima flashed through my mind.
It seems that upon discovering her name, everything about her came to mind.
Mai Sakurajima debuted as a child star and became a national idol by the age of 14. Her mother wanted her to be given to the eldest son of the Yagami family as a plaything, or to find a powerful backer, but Light Yagami refused and offered her the opportunity to become a movie actress. She once co-starred with her boyfriend in a movie called "Your Name".
Recently, Mai Sakurajima's mother was imprisoned for abusing trainees at her agency, which implicated her in the public eye.
Is it because they don't want to be seen and talked about by the world that they have evolved into a strange phenomenon of having no presence but being able to contact the outside world?
Perhaps there is a way to take advantage of her.
Misa Amane had a plan. She pulled Kasugano Sora, who was reminiscing about Sakurajima Mai, changed her clothes, and hurriedly went to the place where Yukinoshita's family worshipped.
Chapter 144: Mai Sakurajima (Part Two)
Countless girls play in bands, become stars, or become live streamers in order to marry into wealthy families and increase their popularity and value.
Because there is no other way, the channels for advancement are almost monopolized, and connections are everywhere.
The male-to-female ratio is constant. Those powerful families strictly limit the number of boys born to ordinary families, preventing them from becoming new aristocratic families. They also require each family to have a large number of children, and most boys are born into powerful families.
From birth, everything about Mai Sakurajima was arranged by her mother.
She debuted as a child star and used her connections to send her to a young heir, hoping to make her his first woman, even if she became a concubine or mistress. As long as she had a child, it would be a leap across countless social classes.
Her mother had a clever plan, and she was helpless. She could only console herself that at least the man had a good reputation and was handsome.
National idols are nothing compared to the families who control a country; they can easily create countless idols, or ban them all in the blink of an eye.
Mai Sakurajima lit an incense stick for the old man and paused for a moment.
She can interact with the outside world, but no one can touch her.
"Li Zicheng treated the peasants, who were being exploited, very well because he had truly experienced and hated the ugliness of the ruling class. However, he overlooked one thing: he failed to strictly demand things of his subordinates, so they burned, killed, and looted everywhere without him noticing. Those who followed him to conquer the country were not all peasants of the same origin."
"Some of them are local powerful families who joined to expand their family's influence or as an investment. They come from privileged backgrounds. How could they possibly conquer the world and then share the hardships with the peasants? Give up the rights they already have?"
Kneeling in front, Light Yagami and Yukino Yukinoshita chatted about history.
"So you're telling me not to become Li Zicheng?"
Yukino Yukinoshita murmured.
"Because of one's background, it's difficult to get people to give up what they already have. The social practice activities I led in the student council at Shuchiin University didn't have much effect."
“Many people say I’m crazy. My family has warned me not to get involved with me. At most, they just put on a show for me and agree with me.”
"They don't understand why we should pay workers and farmers high wages, provide various subsidies and safeguards, and give ordinary people's children the opportunity to go to school. They think this will cause instability in the rule and they used the Five Arts of Governing the People to argue with me."
That was a disheartening past. A few conscientious scions of powerful families were persuaded by him to do something after taking charge, but they withdrew under the family's education.
"There's a distinction between close and distant relatives; when there are benefits, people always think of their family members because they are a community of shared interests. Relying on the institution of marriage, they expand the scope of their relatives, and the means of production are controlled by their families..."
"So a politician's child is still a politician, a bank president's child is still a bank president, and a general's descendant can become a general... but not a higher position, because they also have children."
Yukino Yukinoshita deeply felt the powerlessness of idealism, even though she wanted to change the whole world by herself.
The historical cycle is, in fact, human nature.
Defeating them is easier said than done.
To abandon the life of the elite and instead want to give the oppressed a fair chance is an act of betraying one's class.
Yukino Yukinoshita couldn't do that.
She could only restrain herself from doing bad things and offer help to those who came to her for assistance.
Perhaps ten years from now, for the sake of the family's interests, they will turn on ordinary people and become something hateful.
Just like a father.
"You will die a terrible death, and your family will also be implicated. Many people who worshipped and followed you in life will try to smear you after death, delete and alter your thoughts, and use them as tools to restore their rule."
Yukino's life is filled with unbearable sorrow.
Knowing it's impossible, they still did it, just to leave behind the seeds of thought, waiting to be ignited again and again hundreds or thousands of years later.
He was a solitary pioneer.
"Why do you do this? It's hard to imagine that the education of a powerful family could produce someone like you with such a firm sense of ideology." She bit her lip lightly. Empathy is a gift, and Yukino Yukinoshita can empathize with it.
The more you learn about him, the more you realize how great he is.
"I can't say for sure, and I can't explain it well."
Light Yagami waved his hand. He had been a farmer and had done all sorts of jobs. His grandmother taught him how to harvest wheat, cut straw, and dry grain.
If one were to transform oneself into a landlord who exploits others.
How could he live up to the education he received in the past, to the millions of workers and peasants like his grandmother and father? He wanted to leave behind a legacy.
The only thing I feel guilty about is my family who might be implicated.
After listening for a while, Mai Sakurajima discovered something incredible: Light Yagami was Kira.
As she walked out, the shock still made her dizzy.
