Chapter 25 Crisis
Chapter 25 Crisis
Chloe felt like fireworks were going off in her world; she felt light as a feather, and her mind was filled with the words, "He likes me too."
Even though Vilette couldn't read minds, she could see through her thoughts at this moment.
There was nothing that could be done; someone's face was flushed, as if they were slightly drunk.
When Chloe nearly tripped and fell again due to her distraction, he squeezed the girl's soft hand and gently reminded her, "Ms. Chloe, remember to watch where you're going."
Chloe nodded blankly, whether she actually listened or not was another matter.
Navelette sighed helplessly: "Ms. Chloe, are you really that happy?"
Chloe responded with a silly laugh.
Navelette burst out laughing too; there was no way around it, he was actually quite happy himself.
He had no choice but to grip Chloe's hand tighter so that he could catch her if she tripped over again.
The journey back to Fontaine from the Opikley Opera House is long, and a cool breeze blows as you sit on the cruise ship.
Chloe leaned openly on Violet's shoulder, humming a little tune as the cool breeze blew.
My good mood ended the moment I got home.
As soon as the door opened, Chloe smelled a strong odor of medicinal liquor. Her father, Mr. Durand, was lying on the sofa, groaning loudly, "Ouch, my back—"
Chloe, bewildered, helped him up: "Dad, what happened to you? You were fine when I left."
Mrs. Durand came out of the kitchen carrying a pot of soup and chimed in, "Oh dear, you hurt your back. Weren't you two out today? We figured you'd be back late and probably hadn't eaten dinner, so we thought we'd make something nice. But when we went out to buy groceries, your dad realized his shoelaces were untied and squatted down to tie them."
"And then you strained your back when you got up?" Chloe guessed with some skepticism.
Mrs. Durand chuckled, "That's why they say no one knows a father better than his daughter; he really did accidentally strain his back. But it's actually a good thing, if your dad's shoelace hadn't suddenly come undone, you might not have seen him tonight!"
"Huh?" Chloe didn't understand.
Finally, Mr. Durand himself explained: "You wouldn't believe it, I had just squatted down to tie my shoelaces when a flowerpot that big suddenly fell down in front of me! If I hadn't stopped for a moment, I might have been the one hit!"
"So, you could say that hurting your back is a blessing in disguise," Mrs. Durand chimed in with a laugh, maintaining an optimistic outlook.
However, these words didn't reach the ears of Chloe and Navelette, who were listening in.
The two exchanged a glance, both sensing something amiss in what they heard.
Putting everything else aside, why did this flowerpot have to be placed in such a coincidental way? It's as if it was deliberately designed to harm Mr. Durand!
After dinner, Navelette made an excuse to leave briefly. When he returned, it was late at night, and Chloe was sitting on the bed waiting for him in her nightgown.
Both of them knew perfectly well where he had gone.
Navelette sat down on the edge of the bed: "Ms. Chloe, the Shadow Court has given its investigation results. The falling of that flowerpot was indeed unusual. The preliminary estimate is that it should be related to the pure white lily of the valley that was trying to harm you before."
The Durands had already gone back to their room to sleep.
They knew nothing about the Pure White Lily of the Valley; they only knew that their daughter had recently encountered some trouble and that was why she was living with Navelette.
Chloe didn't want them to worry about this, so she didn't plan to tell them, but simply told her parents not to go out again for a while.
While Navisette was away, she calmly arranged everything, but...
At that moment, Chloe looked down at her trembling hands and said in a hoarse voice, "Lady Vilette, I'm still a little scared..."
She couldn't imagine what would have happened to her father if that flowerpot had actually hit him.
Violet's eyes turned cold, and at that moment she truly harbored murderous intent towards that unknown man.
He suppressed his chill, pulled the slender girl into his arms, and softly comforted her, "Don't worry, Ms. Chloe, Mr. Durand is alright now, and he won't be in any more trouble."
The reason why Pure White Lily of the Valley chose Mr. Durand is easy to understand.
Navette has been almost inseparable from Chloe lately, making it virtually impossible for her to target Chloe herself. Therefore, she has turned her attention to those around Chloe, starting with her closest relatives, her parents.
It's just unexpected that Mr. Durand was lucky enough to avoid it this time.
Navelette will not allow such a thing to happen a second time, so he has arranged for some people to strengthen surveillance of the area and report to him immediately if any suspicious persons approach.
Chloe nestled in his arms and sobbed softly, quickly soaking his clothes.
Knowing he was bad with words and couldn't say anything nice to comfort her, Navelette didn't say anything more, but just gently stroked her hair again and again.
The silent comfort warmed Chloe's heart.
She rallied, sniffed hard, and said fiercely in a voice still trembling with tears, "Lady Vilette, I think we can't go on like this!"
Navelette: ?
He didn't understand what Chloe had suddenly realized, so he could only pretend to be all ears and wait for her to speak.
"The Pure White Lily of the Valley hasn't shown itself yet, putting us in a very passive position with the enemy in the shadows and us in the open. We need to turn the tide!" Chloe had never felt so clear-headed. "I know it will be difficult, but I already have an idea!"
What a brilliant idea, one of a kind in the world! Pure white lilies of the valley could never resist its allure!
Navisle was extremely curious about what she said: "What idea is it?"
Chloe countered, "Lady Vilette, do you still remember that threatening letter that Pure White Lily of the Valley sent in the first place?"
Navelette certainly remembered, but if he remembered correctly, the letter contained absolutely nothing of substance other than his madness.
Chloe, however, seized upon that entire passage that had been used to attack him: "It's clear that everything Pure White Lily of the Valley is doing right now is to get your attention, but what if you don't care about any of it?"
Navelette seemed to understand what she meant.
If Pure White Lily of the Valley discovers that all she has done has failed to move the Supreme Judge in the slightest, will she become enraged?
Of course, Chloe wanted more than just that.
Judging from the current situation, the pure white lily of the valley is a very ruthless person who can endure a lot. Perhaps this method of luring the snake out of its hole needs to be replaced with a stronger medicine.
