Chapter 40 The Infiltrator
Chapter 40 The Infiltrator
The witch's sudden statement conveniently provided her with a way out.
The Drowned King was the first to kneel on one knee to show respect to his master, followed by Zombie Number One and Little Green, and then all the other monsters followed suit.
There was still a lot to do after the iron beacon was upgraded, so Su He took the opportunity to assign tasks to the monsters.
His most pressing goal right now is to mine for diamonds, build an enchanting table and a full set of diamond equipment, and then complete the construction of the Nether portal.
After receiving the new orders, the monsters dispersed and began to move.
Most of the monsters that can be summoned here have the ability to lead subordinates.
While not as powerful as Drowned King or Zombie Number One, it is perfectly adequate for handling current affairs.
The only thing that surprised Su He was that after the mission was assigned, Zombie Number One did not follow the other monsters. Instead, he took the initiative to walk to his side, as if he had something important to report.
Seeing this, the witch tactfully walked over to him and offered to translate.
No one expected that the first words Zombie Number One spoke when he walked up to Su He were in human language that Su He could understand.
"Master...Master, I...I have something to report."
Zombie Number One knelt on one knee, bowed his head, and stammered out these words.
It's obvious that speaking in a way that Su He can understand is still very difficult for it.
"Just continue speaking your own language. It's not too late to report to me like this once you've mastered the language."
"But I'm curious, did you learn to speak before today, or did you just suddenly learn it?"
After hearing Su He's words, Zombie Number One immediately spoke in a low, hoarse zombie language, which was then translated by the witch into language that Su He could understand.
"Yes, Master."
After receiving an affirmative reply from Zombie Number One, Su He silently noted down the impact of upgrading the beacon on his monster subordinates.
At the same time, he secretly planned to pay more attention to whether there were any other monsters that had changed like No. 1, especially those that had improved their aptitude.
"Just say what you want to say, I have something very important to do later."
Upon hearing this, Zombie Number One composed himself and, with the help of the witch's translation, slowly explained the anomaly he had discovered.
"That's right. Apart from the time you summon me, I have been following your orders to continuously patrol the perimeter of the territory to prevent outsiders from trespassing."
"In the past few days, I haven't caught any outsiders, but I keep finding some scattered debris on the ground."
"I suspect that something took advantage of the gaps in the patrol to sneak into the master's territory and did something."
"After realizing this, I increased the frequency of patrols, but I still couldn't catch the infiltrator."
"Moreover, I've noticed a significant increase in the number of outsiders trespassing into our territory lately. When I'm on patrol, I always feel like some unknown force is watching me from the shadows."
After translating the message, the witch couldn't help but look at Zombie Number One, her brows furrowed, and she spoke with a solemn expression.
"Why didn't you tell your master about this sooner?"
"You..." The witch was interrupted by Su He waving her hand before she could finish speaking.
Su He did not question Zombie Number One like the witch did.
He knew that Zombie Number One would never do anything to harm him, and the reason he hadn't reported it before was partly because he was busy with other matters.
On the other hand, it is likely that Zombie One has only now fully understood these anomalies.
Su He pondered for a moment, then looked at Zombie Number One with a serious expression and spoke.
"After today, our territory will only grow larger, and we may even be able to advance directly into the heart of our old neighbor's territory."
"This will make your patrol duties much more demanding and the dangers will increase exponentially."
Zombie Number One nodded.
It has followed Su He from the very beginning and has a much deeper understanding of the rules and current situation of this land than other monsters.
They also knew that Suhe possessed the ability to expand the land beneath their feet outwards.
"Here's what we'll do. Just tell us how much support you need. You're the one who knows best how to patrol the territory; I don't trust other monsters with that."
"But remember, retreat immediately if you encounter danger; preserving your life is the most important thing."
The witch looked up at her master and could hear the seriousness in his tone. She also sensed that he valued Zombie Number One differently.
Even after witnessing Su He's ability to create buildings and monsters out of thin air, the witch still harbored a question in her heart.
That is, what is the status of these monsters in their master's heart?
Is it something that can be easily discarded once a substitute becomes available, or does it hold a different status from ordinary monsters?
In the witch's view, the duties that Zombie Number One was responsible for could be taken over by plenty of intelligent zombies.
Even if someone dies during patrol, it doesn't matter. Just find a suitable zombie to take their place, and the mission can still be completed perfectly.
But Su He's emphasis on Zombie Number One completely exceeded the witch's expectations.
It couldn't help but wonder if its owner would treat it the same way if it were in its place.
"If you don't bring it up yourself, then I'll decide for you."
"Those infiltrators are very likely the outside monsters we fought against last time."
"I'll allocate six extra iron golems to your command; you can allocate the rest of the monsters as you see fit."
"Also, inform the Drowned King that all its previously accepted missions are suspended, and it will patrol with you during this time. Once this trouble has passed, it can resume its original duties."
"Thank you... Master."
Zombie Number One silently accepted the support arranged by Su He and thanked him in awkward words.
Su He then took out the materials from his backpack and quickly created six iron golems, ordering them all to obey the command of Number One.
After all, it was the monster that had followed him the first time, so it was impossible for him to have no feelings for it at all.
Border patrols are of paramount importance, and with the expansion of territory, it is only natural to increase the number of patrol personnel.
Su He watched as Zombie Number One led six iron golems away into the distance.
While wondering why Eris would send monsters to infiltrate his territory, he was also curious about how much his territory had expanded after this upgrade.
From wooden beacons to stone beacons, and then to iron beacons, based on the data from the first two, Su He deduced that this was the pattern of his territory's expansion.
It will probably increase from one-tenth to one-fifth, then to double, and will continue to grow in this pattern.
Of course, this is just his current guess. The specific situation will only be determined after the expansion of the iron beacon's territory is tallied.
"Master, the team you requested to be assembled is ready. Would you like to...?"
