"Intelligence indicates that the 73rd Infantry Division of the Belken Empire is 87 kilometers to our northwest, and our location is a crucial point on the way for the 73rd Infantry Division to capture the capital of Villand Province. This 73rd Infantry Division is the elite force of the Belken Northern Army Group, the vanguard of the invasion of Elgia, equipped with a large amount of motorized equipment, and has two tank regiments."
"Commander John was Emperor Sethegus's cousin. His command style was quite radical, and his attitude towards the Elgins was extremely brutal. Under his leadership, the entire 73rd Infantry Division began to implement the 'Three Alls' policy in the occupied territories. After the 73rd Infantry Division marched towards Verland, Hudson's Royal Fusiliers Regiment was ordered to go out for reconnaissance, and Hudson was one of the reconnaissance units sent out by this Royal Fusiliers Regiment."
"What's going on here?" Lu Wu looked down at a set of photos on the table. Some of the photos were blurry, and some were clear, but they all contained the same content: the deep pit where Golden Eagle No. 1 and Miller had discovered to bury the body.
"The village was called Wakan. Three hours ago, Hudson's troops discovered the village. During the forced requisition of supplies from the villagers, they encountered resistance, and one soldier died. Hudson ordered the villagers to hand over the murderer, but they did not cooperate. Hudson eventually ordered the entire village to be wiped out. They left only four villagers to dig pits to bury the bodies, but in the end, all four of them were also killed by the Belken people."
"How many Belken prisoners of war do we have?" Lu Wu asked after a moment of silence.
"14 people."
"They were all executed."
Lu Wu's order went unchallenged. More than the execution of a few prisoners of war, people were concerned about Hudson's Royal Fusiliers Regiment and the 73rd Infantry Division. During World War II, an infantry division could advance approximately 20 kilometers a day on the battlefield; meaning the 73rd Infantry Division would reach its position in just four days.
A single infantry division of World War I caliber wouldn't pose much of a threat to Lu Wu's 7th Brigade, but an entire Northern Army Group would be a different story.
The 7th Brigade is currently in a very awkward position. Located on the salient of the Kingdom of Elgia, this area has become a focal point of the Belken Empire's attention. Yet, the system has placed their base in such a location. If it were a regular military base, it wouldn't be so bad; if they couldn't win, they could simply retreat and preserve their strength—it wouldn't be shameful. But the system's mission clearly tells them that this base will become the 7th Brigade's headquarters and industrial center. This means Lu Wu cannot abandon this place, and therefore has no choice but to confront the Belken Empire's Northern Army Group head-on.
Damn it, I never backed down when I was commanding a dozen T-72s in the Sinai Peninsula against hundreds of Challengers. Now I have a combined arms brigade under my command. Isn't it a sure thing to take on a World War I army group?
Hmmm, my 7th Brigade is crippled, which seems a bit unstable... If the 73rd Infantry Division or the Northern Army's artillery group discovers my base and bombards it with artillery fire, forget about the T-72AVs, even if it were a Scorpion, it would be blown to smithereens by those massive bombs! After all, caliber is truth, and explosive charge is justice. I have to strike hard and eliminate the only means by which the Belken can threaten the 7th Brigade before they're ready.
The only feasible way to destroy the enemy's artillery cluster is to send the 48th Air Assault Company on an infiltration mission to deliver a fatal blow to the Belken. However, this plan requires substantial intelligence support, and the 1st Company of the 8th Engineer Battalion alone would face immense pressure in a short period. If the Ergia could provide assistance, intelligence gathering would become much easier. The question remains: what is the Ergia Kingdom's opinion of the Ergia, and whether they would be suitable partners?
“Davis, I need you to make contact with the people of Elgija as soon as possible, whether they are civilians, government troops, or privately formed resistance groups. We need to get in touch with them as soon as possible.”
“Understood, sir.” Davis naturally understood how urgent this order was, and he stomped his heel loudly.
"Sir, the engineers sent to Wakan village report that they found a survivor in the pit." However, Lu Wu and Davis never expected that the opportunity to contact the Elgiyans would suddenly appear before them.
Volume 1: Chapter 7, Section 6: New Mission
"Survivors? Did the medical team get there?"
"Two doctors from the medical corps have already gone there."
"Very good. Have the medical corps do everything they can to bring him back to safety." After relaying Lu Wu's order, the communications officer turned his gaze back to the captured map, but Davis's question interrupted his thoughts.
"Sir, if the survivors awaken, or encounter some local forces, what identity should we use to contact them?"
That's a good question. In the past, they never had to worry about this, since the 7th Independent Guards Brigade had mostly played the role of the Soviet Union or the regular Russian army. Now that they've arrived in another world, should they continue to use their previous roles?
Lu Wu's answer was no. He wasn't Russian and didn't want to be associated with Russia. As for the Soviet Union… he did yearn for the red regime, but his 7th Brigade had no party organization, the bio-engineered people had no faith, and more importantly, he didn't believe he had the ideological awareness to develop and spread Marxist philosophy in this other world. So, he wisely avoided the name **. The Kingdom of Elgia, the Belken Empire… thinking of the names of those two countries in this world, a flash of inspiration struck him: "Amelia. From today onwards, we are the 7th Independent Guards Brigade of the Amelia Volunteer Army."
“Understood, sir. The 7th Independent Brigade of the 4th Guards Division of the Aimei Jiuliya Volunteer Army.” Si Dawei repeated Lu Wu’s words to make sure he hadn’t misheard.
Lu Wu wasn't worried at all about whether there was a republic in this world also called Amelia. Yes, our name does have Amelia in it, but we are the Kingdom of Amelia, and we have absolutely nothing to do with your Republic of Amelia. Look at our equipment, could you possibly produce something like this?
Having resolved this minor incident, Lu Wu returned to considering the next course of action. The map of the Belken Empire was clearly marked: the 7th Brigade's headquarters were south of Wakan Village, while Swobella was southeast of Wakan Village, approximately seventy kilometers away. To the southwest of Wakan Village was a mountain range stretching for over a hundred kilometers, and to the east lay a forested swamp.
"Call the engineers over." Lu Wusheng had an idea, but whether he could realize it depended on whether the real-world conditions allowed it.
"Sir! Company Commander Gary of the 4th Company, 8th Engineer Battalion, reporting for duty!" Soon, Company Commander Gary of the engineer company arrived at the command post tent.
"Gary, come here." Lu Wu pointed to the eastern forest swamp on the map, tracing an arc in the forest with his finger. "I need you to find out if this forest swamp is suitable for tanks to pass through, and if a bridge or road needs to be built, how long would that take?"
"Sir, what are the specific requirements?" Gary asked after roughly estimating the distance.
"The goal is to allow the 15 T-72s of the 1st Company to pass safely and get behind the enemy."
"Understood, I'll arrange for someone to investigate right away." Gary tapped his heel, saluted, and quickly left the tent.
"Have the 2nd and 3rd companies hold out in Wakan village and set up a defensive line. The 48th company will withdraw to its post. The MiG-21s will be equipped with reconnaissance pods to locate that Royal Fusiliers Regiment." He already had a rough battle plan.
At 2 PM, the engineer company finally completed its forest reconnaissance and returned to command post with the results and a general plan. Davis also successfully located the Royal Flintlock Regiment, 37 kilometers northwest of Wakan village. Perhaps because everything had gone smoothly since the outbreak of the war, the flintlock regiment hadn't taken any concealment measures during its reconnaissance, marching brazenly along the road. Golden Eagle 2 could see the Royal Flintlock Regiment's wriggling ranks from several kilometers away. Lu Wu immediately summoned all company-level commanders.
"Soldiers, the pilots of the 46th Air Regiment have located the Belken Imperial Royal Flintlock Regiment, 27 kilometers northwest of Wakan village." A large map, redrawn by the 1st Company based on captured maps and photographs brought back by the 46th Air Regiment, was hung behind the tent. The Belken Imperial Royal Flintlock Regiment's icon had been added to it. "At the Royal Flintlock Regiment's pace, they will arrive at Wakan village by noon tomorrow."
"Our objective is to annihilate the Royal Flint Rifle Regiment. 2nd and 3rd Companies, you must hold off the Royal Flint Rifle Regiment in Wakan Village for two days, then proactively disengage and retreat back to your base to lure them into pursuit. Together with the 4th Company stationed there, you will entangle the Royal Flint Rifle Regiment. At the same time, the 1st Company and the 48th Air Assault Company will detour eastward, launching a flanking maneuver through this forest to infiltrate the Royal Flint Rifle Regiment's flank and rear, launching an attack in coordination with the base to wipe out the invading enemy in one fell swoop!"
“Gary, your engineering company must complete the road construction within two days. Vasily, Katarina, you must control the pace of the battle in Wakan Village. Don’t scare the enemy into hiding and waiting for the main force. Give them some hope so that we can drag the Royal Fusiliers Regiment into our rhythm.”
"Understood, sir!" The three men whose names were called stood up abruptly and responded loudly.
Why did Lu Wu choose to annihilate the Royal Fusiliers Regiment? The reason is simple: the system issued a new side mission: [The Antonians fear no challenge! The Belken, who instigated the war, believe no one can stop their invasion of Elgia. The 73rd Infantry Division is confident it can crush any enemy who dares to stand in their way. Soldiers, act now and give these shameless invaders a taste of their own medicine! Mission Objective: Annihilate the vanguard of the 73rd Infantry Division: the Royal Fusiliers Regiment. Mission Reward: 1 Su-7BMK attack aircraft.]
Although Lu Wu looked down on this old-fashioned aircraft—its low performance and ugly appearance aside—it couldn't be denied that it could carry up to 2.5 tons of bombs or 96 S-5K rockets. This payload was several Wallaces higher than the MiG-21PFM or Mi-24V Lu Wu possessed. One of the 7th Brigade's weaknesses was its lack of long-range strike capabilities, especially when facing enemies the size of the 73rd Infantry Division or even the Northern Army Group. If they could acquire this Su-7BMK, the 7th Brigade would have even more options. Imagine the 73rd Infantry Division marching towards Svorbella full of ambition, only to find themselves constantly plagued by ground-attack pilots, with no suitable countermeasures—how hilarious that would be!
Book 1: Chapter 8, Chapter 7 Kelly
"Kelly!"
In the midst of nothingness, a voice echoed.
"Kelly! Kelly!!"
It was a woman calling. Who was she calling?
The sound began to dispel the darkness, and a woman's beautiful face emerged from the shadows. She looked to be in great pain, repeatedly calling out two names. Kelly? That name sounded familiar…
Memories flooded his mind like a tidal wave, and his eyes widened—yes, he was Kelly, and that woman was his sister. What was going on? As he thought this, the surrounding fog suddenly dissipated, and he saw his sister being pinned down by several men in brown military uniforms. With the sound of tearing fabric, he realized he had reached out his hand, but the next instant he was smashed to the ground by a rifle butt.
"Kelly! Help me!"
He broke free from the soldiers who were pinning him down, drew a dagger from one of their waists, and lunged at the man on top of his sister. But with a gunshot, he collapsed again. This time, he couldn't get up; the blood flowing from his abdomen drained all his strength. He could only watch helplessly as one Belken man after another assaulted his sister, her eyes changing from pain to numbness, and finally to lifelessness. Meanwhile, the screams and gunshots outside grew louder, once again engulfing his consciousness.
"elder sister!"
Kelly sprang to his feet, the movement aggravating his gunshot wound in the abdomen. He groaned and realized he was in a tent. The only thing in the tent was his hospital bed. He had been changed into a blue and white striped hospital gown, and his wound was carefully bandaged. A needle was inserted into the back of his left hand, secured with translucent tape, the end of which, a transparent tube, was connected to a vial of water hanging on a metal rack beside the bed. The needle in his hand was quite peculiar, smaller than the needles he had seen in the large hospitals in Svorbella. The vial of water was also made of a new, transparent, soft material—something even the hospitals in Svorbella didn't have.
Where did those Belken people go? It's Wang Qi! Yi≌∩久'琳¢∠簯:靶粦蒐 ̄>索quN:Has the Nationalist army arrived at Wakan Village? Are the other villagers alright? This time the Nationalist army arrived just in time…
He was puzzled by these questions when a gunshot rang out outside. This made him shudder. He quickly pulled the needle out of the back of his hand, ignoring the blood gushing from it, and stumbled out of the tent.
Then he froze.
He was still in Wakan Village, but it was different now. The orange glow of the setting sun shone on the streets piled with sandbags, on which massive machine guns were mounted. He could vaguely see the green speckled uniforms of the machine gunners in the shadows, a stark contrast to the green of the Kingdom's army he remembered. Groups of soldiers in identical uniforms stood at the doorways of the houses, their weapons each bearing a curved box. These men gave him a menacing aura, like his uncles. Several large steel boxes had appeared at the village entrance and in the square, their wheels supported by sections of metal, and a long, thin toothpick-shaped cannon on top.
Who are they? And what about the rest of the village?
"Why did you run out? Your stomach wound was just stitched up, do you want it stitched up again? Go back!" The loud voice behind him made him shudder, but he immediately turned around and saw two men who had appeared behind him at some point. One was dressed in a white coat, like a doctor, and the other was dressed like a soldier on the street. However, neither of them looked like an Elgin. "Who are you? Where is the rest of the village?"
The two men exchanged a glance, and after a moment the doctor-looking man spoke: "We are the Amelia Volunteer Army, and you are the only survivor we have found."
Kelly's already pale face turned even paler. He swayed, almost falling to the ground, and the soldier quickly caught him. The doctor gestured for Kelly to be taken back into the medical tent. However, the sound of gunfire from the southeast jolted Kelly awake. He didn't know where the strength came from, but he broke free from the soldier's grasp and ran towards the direction from which the gunfire was coming.
Then he saw four Belken men kneeling on the ground, their little green soldiers behind them raising their guns and pulling the triggers. After a burst of gunfire, the Belken men, some shouting and some pleading, fell to the ground. He would never forget one face filled with despair—the face of the Belken soldier who had broken down his door. He clenched his fist, his nails digging deep into his palm, the blood flowing from his left hand almost staining his entire left fist red.
Are there still Belken people?
The doctor, who had been running alongside them, didn't have time to answer. He took out some medicine and bandages from the medical kit on the soldier's back and immediately began treating Kelly's left hand.
“No, you woke up a little late. These are the last four.” The soldier who had been with the doctor communicated with the executioner and then returned to Kelly, saying, “They belong to the Royal Fusiliers Regiment of the 73rd Infantry Division. The regiment will arrive here tomorrow at noon.”
Kelly's eyes lit up at those words. "I don't care who you are, as long as you kill the Belken, you're friends. You're not locals, you need a guide, and I can fill that role. Just take me with you when you're killing the Belken, let me help you kill them."
The doctor, having finished treating the wound, pursed his lips, neither agreeing nor refusing, and instead pushed him by the shoulder to walk back. "We'll talk about the guide later. Your wound has reopened and needs to be stitched up again. Go and call Company Commander Davis over, and tell him the wounded soldier has woken up."
When Kelly's wound was stitched up again, and she finally saw Company Commander Davis, whom the doctor had mentioned, it was already an hour and eight minutes later.
"I heard a regiment of Belken people will arrive tomorrow?" Kelly asked impatiently after a brief self-introduction. "How many of you are there? Can you hold them off?"
“We have two companies stationed here. It’s easy for us to hold off the Royal Fusiliers.” Davis had no intention of hiding the number of men. There was no need. He trusted that the young man in front of him wouldn’t reveal it. Besides, even if the Belkens knew that there were only about three hundred men defending the village, what did it matter? They could still keep the Belkens tied down.
"Are you crazy?! The other side is a whole regiment, a regiment of over a thousand people!" Upon hearing this answer, Kelly exclaimed incredulously, "No, we have to go to Svorbella immediately and tell my uncle the Belkens are here..."
“Your uncle?” Davis grasped the key point.
"Yes, my uncle is Austin Kennon, the commander of the 44th Infantry Division. We must ask my uncle for help immediately, or it will be too late!"
Book 1: Chapter 9, Chapter 8: The Royal Flintlock Regiment - A Belated Realization
"So, can someone please tell me where our Major Hudson has gone?" At this moment, Colonel Cody, commander of the Royal Fusiliers Regiment, the opposing force of the 7th Brigade, was furious in the regimental headquarters. "One of my majors has been missing for 12 hours with a reconnaissance detachment, and my Lieutenant Colonel Herman didn't even realize there was a problem here and suppressed the news!"
The other three battalion commanders in the command post had no intention of gloating. They all kept their heads down, eyes downcast, looking completely harmless. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Herman, the battalion commander of the 503rd Infantry Battalion who was being reprimanded, was sweating profusely, constantly wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead.
"What could happen if a reconnaissance unit goes missing? Equipment failure, enemy attack—it's one of those reasons, or both. If the radio malfunctioned, they could have crawled back in 12 hours! Unless they're all a bunch of idiots who can't even read a map!"
"I know that as the war has progressed to this point, you may think the Elgars are nothing special, but don't forget, the Elgars have caused the Empire great losses before. We were able to capture six provinces on the Elgar border in a single month because our equipment was more advanced and our preparations were more thorough, not because the Elgars are useless. Their guns can kill just as well! Svorbella is the most important city in southern Elgar, and the Elgars will fight tooth and nail to protect it. Gentlemen, pull your guard down, or get out of my regiment."
Colonel Cody surveyed the silent command post with satisfaction, ending his tirade. A prolonged period of favorable winds can lead to complacency and a loss of vigilance within an army. This shouldn't have happened to the glorious Royal Fusiliers Regiment. Lieutenant Colonel Hermann, who set this precedent, must be dealt with seriously as a warning to others.
"Now, you'd better tell me the time and location of Major Hudson's last report, or you'd better get back to the supply company." Colonel Cody refocused his gaze on the man wiping his sweat. His expressionless face made Herman even more uneasy, and his disgust for Hudson deepened.
“Yes, yes!” Herman stepped forward, recalling the contents of Hudson’s last communication, and pointed to a location on the map: “Hudson’s last communication said that they had discovered an Elgia village and were preparing to explore it.”
"Are you sure this is the place?"
"Yes!" Herman was fairly confident in his memory, but immediately added, "That's what Hudson said in the communication." Life is tough, so it's best not to speak too definitively. It's always good to leave some room for maneuver and have some insurance for yourself.
"In that case, your 503rd Infantry Battalion will be tasked with finding Major Hudson's whereabouts. We need to find him alive or dead. If it's confirmed that Major Hudson was murdered, then make the killer pay! Remember, you only have 24 hours." Colonel Cody put his hands behind his back and looked down at the map.
"Understood, sir!" Hermann naturally wouldn't complain about the tight schedule and quickly gave a military salute.
"The 501st and 505th Battalions will continue to advance as planned, while the artillery battalion will remain in place and be ready to provide artillery support at any time." Colonel Cody snorted, but temporarily let Herman off the hook. "Gentlemen, if you still want to celebrate Christmas with your families, then get moving."
“Understood, sir!” Upon hearing Cody’s words, the battalion commanders of the 501st, 505th, and artillery battalions also raised their heads and responded loudly.
While the Royal Fusiliers belatedly began their operation and advanced towards Swobella, the 7th Brigade was already prepared for battle in the village of Wakan, 37 kilometers away.
The defense zone has been divided. Instead of cramming all 30 BMP-2Ms into the small village, the 2nd and 3rd companies moved to the hills extending from the Villan Mountains to the west of Wakan Village. Once the Royal Fusiliers Regiment launches its attack on Wakan Village, the 3rd company will launch its assault from there and then join forces with the 2nd company. The 2nd Company, responsible for fighting in Wakan Village, has completed the construction of its combat positions—each combat squad has been assigned to its own defense zone, and crossfire coverage has been established between the defense zones; all flammable and explosive materials in the Wakan villagers' houses have been removed; the fragile mud walls have been reinforced with sandbags, wooden beds, and wardrobes piled with mud; the windows have also been mostly sealed off to prevent the enemy from throwing grenades when they get close—unless the 2nd Company releases water, it will not be easy for the enemy to get close enough to throw grenades. Correspondingly, they have opened firing ports in some places to maintain fire output; the engineers have also helped the 2nd Company to open passages between buildings to facilitate rapid movement; machine guns have also been set up in several cellars to form low-angle firing positions; six BMP-2Ms have either been disguised as mud house ruins or half-buried underground to serve as heavy firepower points and improve the firepower configuration of the positions, while the rest are tucked inside the village as reserves; Category 3 supplies such as ammunition and Category 6 supplies such as medical equipment and supplies have also been stockpiled at various important nodes of the defensive line.
Unlike Ling, who was confident of defeating the 2nd Company of the Royal Fusiliers Regiment, Kelly was in a state of anxiety. He was trying to persuade the group of people claiming to be Amelia volunteers to let him go back to inform the Royal Army, but the doctor stopped him, citing his injuries as unsuitable for long-distance travel. Not only was the doctor clueless, but the others were too. Every time he mentioned informing the Royal Army, a knowing smile appeared on their faces. Damn it! Did these Amelias really think they were invincible just because they wiped out a reconnaissance squad of a few dozen men? If you Amelia are so powerful, you shouldn't be unknown internationally!
For both emotional and rational reasons, Kelly didn't want to see his well-equipped allied force annihilated by an enemy many times their size due to arrogance. So he decided to leave secretly. However, Wakan village was still over seventy kilometers from Swobela, and by the time he reached Swobela, it would be too late. He needed to find transportation. Fortunately, the village chief of Wakan village owned two fine horses, kept in the stable behind his house. These were excellent warhorses; hopefully, the Belken hadn't killed them during their invasion.
Thinking this through, Kelly got out of bed, lifted the tent flap, and went outside without any intention of hiding herself. The Amelia Volunteer Army was now on high alert; if she acted like she was sneaking off to steal a widow, she might get mistaken for a Belken spy and shot on the spot by those little green men.
Q Volume 1: Chapter 10, Section 9: Empty Car Rental
As soon as Kelly left the tent, the sentries outside immediately came to meet him and followed behind. Davis did not restrict his movements, but he also arranged for someone to keep an eye on Kelly to prevent any accidents from happening.
I need to find a way to get rid of him.
So Kelly walked to the shaded side of the tent, unbuckled his belt, pulled out his thing, paused for a moment, then turned around and said, "Hey, buddy, can you not look at me? I can't pee when I'm nervous."
He could feel the little green man's mouth twitch under his mask, then he pointed and said, "The toilet is over there. Don't urinate or defecate in the camp."
Kelly felt a rush of blood to his head, and he knew his face must be burning red. He quickly stuffed the thing back into his pants, whistled nonchalantly, and walked in the direction the sentry had pointed, apologizing as he went, "Sorry, it's a habit."
The little green man didn't respond, but followed him step by step to the toilet door before turning around. Left with no other option, he went inside.
The so-called toilet was actually just a small tent, except that there was a box inside to collect excrement. After seeing the contents of the tent, Kelly was speechless. These Amelia people were really damn meticulous; they went to the trouble of making a tent as a toilet. Why not just dig a hole anywhere? He grumbled about the extravagance of the Amelia volunteers while relieving himself. After washing his hands and shaking them clean, he planned to stroll over to the stables, but after only a few steps, the little green man politely asked him to return to the tent. His uncompromising tone left him no time to ask why, and he simply turned back.
When S returned to the tent and saw Davis inside, he understood why.
"Kelly, I heard from my people that you want to go back to Swobella?" Davis asked as soon as Kelly came in.
"You agreed?" Kelly's eyes lit up, and he asked eagerly. Sure enough, Davis, as the leader here, was quite clear-headed. Thinking of this, he glared smugly at the doctor beside him, earning a roll of his eyes in return.
“Sir, I have to warn you, if his wound reopens on the way, he might die from blood loss. The repeated reopening and stitching of the wound is also bad for his recovery.” As a doctor, he had to inform Davis of these potential risks before he could make a decision.
U.S. Davis stroked the stubble on his chin and asked, "What if we send him to Swobella by helicopter or car? That would shorten the journey and reduce the risk."
“Paper Saint Machine? What’s that?” The new term Davis used piqued Kelly’s interest.
But Davis and the doctor ignored his question. The doctor thought for a moment and said, “Sending it there by helicopter is no problem, but aren’t you worried that the Elgeans will mistake our Mi-4 for Belken’s and shoot it down?” He then frowned and said, “Don’t tell me you’re planning to use a Hind to transport it.”
Davis laughed. "Why not?"
"So, is there anyone kind enough to tell me what a paper holy machine is? Is this Mi 4 and Doe one of these paper holy machines?" Kelly, a country boy, was bewildered by the endless stream of words coming from the two men, and asked with his hands outstretched.
"You'll find out what a helicopter is in a bit. By the way, if you have a fear of heights, you'll probably have a little time to prepare yourself mentally." Davis stood up, patted Kelly on the shoulder, and left the tent. Only the 48th Air Assault Company of the entire 7th Brigade possessed Hind helicopters; if they wanted to use Hinds to transport people, they would have to request resources from the Army.
Erlu Wu quickly understood Davis's intention.
Davis's move was not, as Kelly had envisioned, a request for reinforcements from the 44th Infantry Division. On the contrary, it was a gesture of goodwill, a show of force. After all, cooperation is based on the premise that the two sides are not too far apart in strength, so that both sides can get what they need. If the two sides are too far apart in strength, then such cooperation is likely to turn into the stronger side swallowing up the weaker side.
As this was the first contact between the Amelia Volunteer Army and the Army of the Kingdom of Elgin, the choice of personnel naturally required careful consideration. Austin Kenen, commander of the 44th Infantry Division, was a 48-year-old Major General. If the intention was to show respect, only Lieutenant General Lu Wu of the entire 7th Brigade could meet the requirement. However, sending a lieutenant general from a combined arms brigade to meet the commander of a backward infantry division by helicopter would be too undignified; it would make the Elgins look down on them, thinking that their 7th Brigade was nothing special.
“Davis, you’ll go with the Doe,” Lu Wu quickly decided. “This time, when we contact the Kingdom of Elgiia’s army, we must first state our position, mainly two points: The Elgiia Volunteer Army is a borderless armed organization formed by Elgiia civilians at their own expense, and has no relationship or connection with any country, region, or organization. The Elgiia Volunteer Army aims to maintain regional peace and development. We strongly condemn the Belken Empire’s inhumane acts of breaking peace, provoking war, and committing massacres during the war. We urge the Belken Empire to lay down its arms, withdraw from the war, return the territory of the Kingdom of Elgiia, and make reparations to the Kingdom of Elgiia. Until the Belken Empire fulfills the above demands, the Elgiia Volunteer Army will intervene in this Elgiia-Belken War to assist the Elgiians in defending their homeland. Any country, region, or organization that participates in the invasion of Elgiia will be attacked by the Elgiia Volunteer Army.”
"Understood, sir." Davis memorized every word Lu Wu said.
"Besides demonstrating our stance, you have another task: invite the Ergia to witness our annihilation of the Royal Fusiliers Regiment." Without strong military backing, even the most forceful diplomatic rhetoric is meaningless. A mere Hind aircraft wouldn't satisfy this need; at best, it would only be a ticket for Davis to meet with high-ranking officers of the 44th Infantry Division. Only a decisive, overwhelming battle showcasing the 7th Brigade's combat capabilities would make the Ergia understand the gap between the two sides and adjust their mindset regarding cooperation. Even if the Ergia didn't believe in their capabilities, the mere thought of an air vehicle capable of hovering, attacking ground units, and transporting soldiers and supplies would surely convince them to accept the 7th Brigade's invitation. Once they arrived at the base, cooperation between the two sides would be a natural progression.
Book 1: Chapter 11, Chapter 10: Shocking Kelly
What exactly was this "Paper Sacred Machine" that the Amelia people were talking about? Swobella was over seventy kilometers away, and the road conditions weren't great; it would take about an hour or two to drive there. Could this Paper Sacred Machine really deliver him to Swobella before the Belken launched their attack? With these questions in mind, Kelly spent a sleepless night. Just as he was drifting off to sleep, a gradually increasing buzzing sound suddenly dispelled his drowsiness.
He lifted the tent flap and looked outside. It was already dawn, past six o'clock. He looked up in the direction of the sound, and his breath caught in his throat as an unforgettable scene unfolded before his eyes: under the half-golden sky, a massive aircraft with enormous rotors was approaching. Two huge windshields, resembling the compound eyes of an insect, gave it a sinister aura. Below the compound eyes, a heavy machine gun protruded, like an insect's mouthparts. There were short, thick wings on either side of the fuselage, from which hung numerous large tubes. Ugly and malevolent, yet possessing a unique, simple, and brutally violent beauty.
The behemoth hovered above the camp with a tremendous roar, slowly descending, which allowed Kelly to see the red star and tiger emblem on the side of the fuselage, as well as the number 7486.
"Is this the paper machine the Amelia people spoke of...?" Kelly gradually understood what Davis meant by telling him to be mentally prepared last night...
The Amelia people really wanted to send him to heaven!
