Chapter 2369 - 2345: A Long-Awaited Battle
"Turtle, pull the Dagger Assault Team back in and stand by!"
Gao Yang had made up his mind; he was going to personally lead Satan’s assault element into the fight.
Relying on the Dagger Assault Team alone, they would never be able to take the enemy down, and although using the Dagger Assault Team to keep wearing the enemy down was the correct approach, Gao Yang had reached the point where he could no longer keep doing it.
By Yarebin’s standards, Gao Yang had made progress, but the degree of progress was limited; in the end he still couldn’t carry the correct method through to the finish.
Gao Yang called Peter back, and even recalled Glolov and Yuri, pulling them together for an emergency discussion on the next phase of the attack.
"Sending the Dagger Assault Team in again is pointless. They can bleed the enemy’s combat strength when opportunities come up, but in the end it still comes down to us. And we don’t have time to waste here."
He was about to use a method that wasn’t exactly right, so the slightly guilty Gao Yang wanted to find himself some excuses.
He glanced around and said to Peter in a low voice, "Next, you keep leading the Dagger Assault Team and launch the third attack, and we’ll be right behind them. This time, we have to get inside the enemy’s building."
After saying this with a cold face, Gao Yang continued in a deep voice, "The enemy has Anti-tank missiles, which means their preparations are extremely thorough, and an enemy that well-prepared can’t only have Anti-tank missiles. So before we get into their building, and after we get inside, we still need the Dagger Assault Team to spearhead it."
Li Jinfang rubbed his nose awkwardly and said quietly, "Rely on them? Might as well... forget it."
For an assault on a fortified position, Rafael was indispensable, because they were highly likely to need him to open a passage. So since he was going in personally, Gao Yang had to call Rafael back.
"Skunk, return to the reserve position. If Rabbit’s group doesn’t need protection, Little Fly comes back as well. Out."
"Little Fly can return. Out."
After waiting a moment, Gao Yang continued, "Triangle attack formation. Toad, Tyrannosaurus, Pigeon, you’re Group One. Me, Little Fly, Skunk, Group Two. Panda, Fat Cat, Clumsy Bear, Group Three."
At this moment Gao Yang couldn’t help but miss James a little, because James from SBS had been a very stable and extremely powerful Fire Assault Specialist. Now that James was gone, Gao Yang could only assign Yuri into the assault group to beef up their striking power.
Snipers, Marksmen, Gunners, Machine Gunners, all of them were extremely important, but the fact remained: the Assault Specialists were the cornerstone of any small-unit combat team.
In moments, the large triangular attack formation composed of three small triangles was formed, and its purpose and characteristics were very clear: the strongest trio with Li Jinfang would kick the door, Gao Yang’s group would follow through the entrance to kill, and Andy He’s group would be ready to pull people out or reinforce any position that suddenly needed more muscle.
After finishing the team assignments, Gao Yang said in a low voice, "How many Shemyers do we still have?"
"Report, six left."
Gao Yang pondered for a moment, then waved his hand. "Use them all. We have to finish the enemy in a single attack!"
Once the decision was made, there was no room for hesitation. Gao Yang spoke into the radio, "Worker Bee."
"Worker Bee copies, Boss."
"Prep flares and smoke."
"Worker Bee understands!"
Each of Satan’s people had a night vision device, but the Dagger Assault Team did not. In the previous assaults they had all been fighting in the dark. The moon was quite bright tonight, but trying to hit targets at two hundred meters in a hasty engagement was still too dark.
Flares were only something they might use; if not necessary, they would naturally refrain.
Gao Yang spoke again into the radio in a low voice, "Cobra."
"Cobra here."
"Prepare to coordinate with a frontal assault and pin the enemy down."
"Cobra understands."
Gao Yang exhaled, then suddenly remembered something and said in a deep voice, "Everyone, put on helmets."
Wearing helmets would distinguish them from the Dagger Assault Team, but at this point, since the Dagger Assault Team could no longer be relied on and Satan was about to personally assault an enemy far tougher than forecast, then something that kept you alive, like a helmet, needed to be brought into play.
He thought it through carefully, confirmed there were no more oversights, then took a deep breath and suddenly shouted, "Covering fire ready, Dagger Assault Team ready to attack, Rocket Launcher ready."
Once Gao Yang gave the order, everyone moved to their roles. When all were set, Gao Yang chopped his hand down and shouted, "Go!"
The men of the Dagger Assault Team actually no longer had much courage left to keep fighting. Calling them "elite" would truly be an insult to that word. But these people did have one good point: they weren’t particularly afraid of dying. As long as someone led them instead of driving them like cattle to the slaughter, they were still very qualified cannon fodder.
"Follow me!"
Peter roared and charged out once again, and Glolov’s machine gun was the first to open up.
At least the Dagger Assault Team could fire wildly and provide some suppressive fire on the enemy; that much they could manage.
The men carrying the Rocket Launcher went out one after another, and after firing their Rocket Launcher rounds they immediately ditched the launchers, three-man cells keeping a tight formation as they followed behind the Dagger Assault Team, hugging the wall and pushing forward fast.
Gao Yang had a Shotgun slung across his chest and the Blade of Satan in his hands, but he didn’t provide covering fire; like the other assault teams, he advanced at speed.
Bullets couldn’t be fired continuously forever, and Gao Yang’s judgement of the gaps in enemy fire had become instinct. When he estimated the timing was about right, he shouted, "Stop advancing, take cover!"
Satan’s people immediately scattered, each finding cover to hide behind, while Peter had to keep shouting, "Stop! Stop! Take cover! Damn it! Take cover, all of you!"
Amid Peter’s shouting, Satan’s covering fire did indeed cease. Glolov needed to change belts, and Gao Yang had never counted on the Dagger Assault Team’s suppressive fire; whether they kept shooting or stopped made little difference.
As expected, once Glolov’s machine gun fell silent, the enemy’s counterfire began. This time they failed to replicate the casualties of the first two engagements, but three more men from the Dagger Assault Team were hit because they chose the wrong time and position to move.
They waited in silence for two minutes. After Glolov had definitely changed his belt and barrel and shifted his machine gun position, Gao Yang shouted again, "Covering fire ready, assault ready! Go!"
Glolov’s machine gun roared back to life, and Cui Bo and Phoenix seized the moment as well, firing volley after volley. Gao Yang’s people suddenly burst from cover again and sprinted forward at full speed.
During this second lull in fire, Gao Yang went to ground again. He took a look; they were now only fifty meters from the enemy building. One more round of covering fire and they could rush inside. This was the moment to prep for close-quarters and room clearing.
Gao Yang slung the Blade of Satan over his back and brought the Shotgun up in his hands, then spoke quietly into the radio, "Turtle, get ready."
