Chapter 222: Two tribe leaders
Chapter 222: Two tribe leaders
"You...the tribe leader?"
The tribe leader of the fox clan was so surprised that his mouth hung open.
Failan, who was despairing just now, felt a resurgence of hope. He stared at Xeno with starry eyes. Xeno felt his gaze and looked at him smugly. Visha pinched him secretly. He begged for mercy through their link.
"Not only am I the tribe leader, so is he." He pointed to Uri.
Two tribe leaders? What tribe has two tribe leaders? It’s good enough that they don’t fight for supremacy. But they are actually able to get along. And from what everyone had been hearing, they are partners.
Many onlookers considered this tribe strange. There weren’t many tribe leaders and priests who would choose to walk around the bazaar themselves. They would send people to look, then have them report to them. Wanting to walk around among the ’common people’ was undoubtedly strange.
Coupled with the age of the people in front of them, it was hard to imagine this tribe as anything other than a new tribe or a weak tribe.
"Tribe leaders? You are children. Not old enough to bear offspring, but you talk about leading a tribe." The fox clan leader laughed heartily.
"Believe as you will," Uri said. He turned to Failan and the other two. "Take your things and come with us. If you are willing to leave, we will have you."
Then his voice carried, "If any of the fox clan are willing to we will accept you as part of our tribe."
When he finished speaking, Failan quickly pulled the two together and gathered the things he had in the tent. He trailed after the trio, leaving the crowd behind.
Some distance away, six people were standing together watching the commotion. No one in the throng of people had noticed them. They were the three tribe leaders and three priests of the ruling classes.
"The first conflict at the start of the festival. This time, there isn’t any bloodshed. It is somewhat refreshing." Kira said, to no one in particular.
"They are different, I will acknowledge that. Talon has encountered them before, but they do not seem to be a threat. They aren’t weak, but they don’t appear particularly strong," Varek noted.
"Hmph, strong to you is beating someone for an infraction. We know, you mammoths rule with an iron fist." Hunter, the condor tribe leader, replied.
Varek laughed, "We are not that cruel. If we were, you two would have tried to overthrow us a long time ago."
Hunter scoffed. The others continued to watch the scene play out. They saw the fox clan people leaving. The surroundings were becoming peaceful again.
"I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see this tribe," Terra responded. The others agreed.
Back in their living area, Visha had the tribesmen take the other half of what she owed the sealion tribe from her room. She sent someone out to collect the other half, promising the tribesmen a feast tonight.
"So, what do you three plan on doing? Are you truly willing to be a part of our tribe?" Visha asked the people sitting before her. She held up her hand when she saw Failan about to answer.
"You two. You haven’t said anything this entire time. You follow Failan’s lead, but do you want to leave the fox clan?"
The female, Kitil, was the first to answer. "If we stay here, will you allow us to be together?"
"Why would we stop you? You are mates. Separating you makes no sense."
"Then I prefer to stay."
The male also nodded saying he wanted to stay as well.
"Good. The space might be tight, but we can definitely fit a few more people. When we go back, after the festival, we will do a pack bonding ceremony."
"Tribe leaders, priestess, permission to speak," Failan said.
The trio nodded.
"If possible. I think it would be good for us to ask for a larger place to stay. Though the rest of the fox clan didn’t come to us. I’m sure there will be more people from the Fox clan planning to join. Everyone has been fed up with not being able to be near their mates. There are a lot of people who want to leave. They may be apprehensive about whether we will truly be accepted, and that’s why they didn’t leave with us. Once they see that we are doing well, you might end up having more people than this place can hold."
"Are you certain?" Uri asked.
He had wanted more people to join the tribe. He didn’t mind taking in those from other tribes. It would be a bonus for them if they could. What he worried about was betrayal. They already had one person to deal with. If they added more, he would feel uneasy.
And if none of them had the pack bond, he would not be able to trust them. If more arrived, he would need to talk to Visha about doing a ceremony while at the festival.
"Yes, there will be more coming. I am certain of it."
"We’ll wait until this place is full before asking for another. The female who followed us this entire way wouldn’t know where we had gone if we left too early," Xeno remarked.
"Someone followed?" the male, Hamel, asked.
"Of course, how else would they know where we are if they didn’t send someone to follow?" Visha answered nonchalantly.
"So you knew to expect more?" Failan asked.
"We knew there would be more. We didn’t know how many more." Visha looked at them. "Go find yourselves a place to rest. When the rest of the fox clan comes over, there is a question we need to ask."
They didn’t ask anything else, only walked to the room they found. The trio expected them to have a lot to talk about, so they didn’t keep them for long.
"How many more do you think will come?" Xeno asked.
"Only time will tell," Uri responded.
